I have been embarassed to open Christmas presents ever since i've been a kid. I hate opening presents infront of people, especially friends, this Is also the same with birthdays and any occasion where someone offers me a gift. I don't know why it happens, can anybody come up with a reason?
I am too, but for me it is because I do not have vivid facial expressions, so I either sit there, and they assume I don't like the gift, or I have to fake an expression and feel like a dumbass. Is this your problem too or is it something different?
You have performance anxiety? As in "This is just what I wanted..." when in fact you feel ... this stinks..."
My family all sit around and pass gifts over 1 by 1 and it is really awful to get the balance between not having a disappointed face or fake happy exaggerated face lol. It's a massive amount of pressure!
I could swear 90 % of people are like this and just don't notice. I just looked back on what my facial expression is when i open my gifts- It's pretty blank.. No emotion. I guess it' because you don't know what your expecting and you are kind of like anxious at the same time. It's a werid and akward momment to be in lolll!

Ahhh - you are making a big deal out of nothing - what does it take to open a package - like less than a minute? Then you don't even have to look at the giver - just hold it up for a second and say "Thank you" and put it down - then move on - your done! (well not really - you should still send a thank you note.) Nobody ever gets what they want - that's not the point. It is a statemnet that they went to the trouble to come and honor and be with you. So get over it!
They expect an extremely excited reaction. Maybe you are afraid of what your reaction will be; and if your reaction if not one of excitement, what will they think of you for not accepting the present with the extreme excitement they expected.
dont worry. it's pretty normal, but you can only be yourself. just let however you feel come out. if you are embarrassed, so be it.
I am the same way. I can't stand holidays and my birthday because of it. I hate it even more when people sing to me on my birthday. Everyone knows I hate it. I just hate being all ultra gleeful when people give you a gift. I feel like I should be all "OMG I LOVE IT, blah blah blah blah, I'VE ALWAYS WANTED ONE" when really...I hate getting presents, lol.
