Fat pets!

I left my cat with my mother when I left her house cause I couldn't bring the cat along with me.
when I visited my mother (after a very long time)
I found that she's been overfeeding my cat plus the three dogs she owns.
They used to be quite athletic and now they have no waist; they look like sausages.

I have the opinion that cats and dogs should stay on the lean side.
Unlike people who store fat away, pets shouldn't be holding onto any excess fat.
(Unless you have a pet bear....)

Does anyone agree that over-indulging (with food) is just as bad as neglecting your pet?

  • It's true, it's a form of animal abuse. Tell her to stop feeding them so much.

I tend to get rather antagonistic when people post about their hatred of fat people. Actually, scratch that, it's when people post about their hatred of any section of society.

But fat pets are a different matter. Pet owners have a responsibility for the animals in their charge. I understand that, for many reasons, it may seem like a kind thing to constantly "treat" a pet. But there's a bigger picture. A pet owner is responsible for a life. As an atheist, I don't think there's any bigger responsibility.

With that in mind, I agree with you completely. Knowingly overfeeding a pet is not just as bad as neglect, it actually is neglect.

Well why did you have to leave the pets for that long?
