Fan/air conditioner helps me sleep at night

Well, I don't know what it is, But I can't, I repeat, CANT sleep without the sound of either an oscillating fan, or the air conditioner.

I'm not quite sure what it is, and I was wondering if this is normal.

Thanks.

That is way normal. The other night my fan started make a wierd inconsistant noise. I couldn't sleep after the incident and had to get a new fan. It sucked (or did it "blow").
    Sorry. Stupid pun.

dude i live in india. Its one of the hottest countries and we guys are hairy too so out here an oscillation fan is necessity even in winters sometimes.. so from my point view you are as normal as a human being can be..

    How about snoring?
I love the soft purr of someone's snore, or even the loud truck-sounding snore.

All of us have methods of putting ourselves to sleep. I have hugged my pillow since childhood. I would think a fan would bring soothing white noise, and as long as it is not loud would be the perfect sleeping arrangement. Normal I too am the exact same way!

every night a toss n' turn in bed either until 3am where i just fall asleep or i put on my iPod... for some reason I just fall asleep no matter what, the beginning to metalica's "one" makes me go before the first lyrics, "yeh but thats soft and peacful" you might say... 8 minutes of Dragonforce's "operation ground and pound" begs to differ. the noise helps me and will do for a while, keep doing whatever helps.

I use something called a sound machine to sleep. It got 20 different sounds and a volume control. I always use what is called white noise, its like a static noise. I am a light sleeper and the slightest sudden noise will wake me up and that really helps. It also drowns out other noises from tv and music. I never slept better.

Totally normal - the majority of people I know and/or are close to need noise to sleep.
