I kinda sorta was AF. Just graduated BMT and was injured, THEN received a horrible letter from my husband (now ex) asking me to return home.

Ugh. If it weren't for the injury, and him..I'd still be in.

I can't say I've come across too many fakes like this. But it's easier to fake it, and hope you fool somebody, to get the resultant respect that most people give, than to actually sign on and go through the whole mess, even for a few years. Everybody wants respect, so in that sense, I think these fakers are normal. Just their way of going about it is kind of delusional.

BTW, did I mention I'm a retired Air Force Colonel? I served six tours in Nam, and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor three times.

You know what's REALLY pathetic? Someone who only survived boot camp and decided he missed his mommy so much he got discharged and, yet, has the Marine tattoo on his back, yes I know, and walks around saying that he is a Marine. When he sees a Marine he lies and fakes a rank and makes them salute him. Is that f*ed up or what?!

I think joining the army was the worst decision I ever made. The only glory that comes with it is the 1%% chance you actually get to shoot an insurgent, and even thats crap cause youll probably get some level of PTSD from that. I dont think the time away from family is worth it, the benefits are good, but sometimes home is worth more than that. If you were ever in the military you could easily identify a fake, but at any rate if they want to lie like that they can go ahead, they are probaly just trying to make up for their lame life or to get attention. The army is gay though, before you sign that contract remember how long you will be away, and if your family is worth sacrificing for a 12-15 month tour of duty in a desert training Iraqis that hate you and your country.

I wish there were more men who felt the way you do. I just got married in June. My husband and I haven't been married for a year and he was deployed. Sometimes I feel like I hate the military. I mean I don't but I guess I'm just bitter he was taken away from me so soon.

I, General Specific, along with Major Minor, Private Public, Seaman Sample, and Colonel Sanders all agree with me that adding military names to the beginning gets people to listen to you more. Plus, if Commander Mander is right, it sounds "really really cool."

I rest my case!!! there is a kid in Nashville on MySpace that claims he just made pfc!!!

His future brother in law joined Coast Guard so he can be called a seaman.

He has never even seen the sea!!!

    • If you are talking about National Guard, it is a branch of the service as well.

My dad was in for a time.

I guess the reason folks (READ: GUYS!) fake it is that they want to seem cool.

I will never understand the male mind.
