Ever feel like you're watching a tv show?

Is it normal to feeling like you're watching something, like a movie, when you're just doing something, or nothing, depending. I mean like, feeling distant and separate from your environment, like the world is something you're watching rather than something you are actually in and a part of. I tend to feel this way alot, and it kind of bothers me sometimes. I'm not crazy, am I?

I do this too. Do you believe in past lives? Sometimes people dont feel connected to thier"new body or vehicle rather". I suggest you go to youtube, and look up Dr.Delbert blair supreme beings 1-10. Dont take meds for this! You have a gift, you are not souless! Only a few Souls are reincarnated. Be happy with it, and learn how to look deeper inside your self! i do this everyday, and at first it can seem scary. But its just the "real" you waking up. :)

I don't know about the epilepsy side of it since I have no experience with that, but I do know that depersonalisation can be a part of depression too.

I feel like that a lot.

no, the first answer is incorrect. COMPLETELY incorrect. That sensation, feeling of watching a tv show is what you WANT to experience! That's what zen monks strive for. Our entire lives are imaginary. We are asleep. But with certain efforts, we can wake up and possibly penetrate higher states of consciousness.

Do this. Try to remember yourself. That is, try to be aware of yourself doing whatever activity it is your doing. It's a way to divide your attention. Have part of your attention on whatever you're doing (talking to someone, driving, walking, etc.) and the other part WATCHING yourself talking, driving or walking. You might think you're already conscious of that activity as you do it but when you actually become conscious of yourself doing it, you see at ONCE that you were NOT conscious. Keep it up. It leads to a level of consciousness almost inconceivable.

redcomb, you sound like a well-intentioned person. You also sound like an extremely ignorant person. Do you have epilepsy? Probably not. Have you read the Kama Sutra and some Buddhist writings? You probably have.

But 'depersonalization' is a very real phenomenon, and it doesn't just manifest itself to people who have Buddhist/Eastern metaphysical leanings. You sound like an idealist who is working himself up into a frenzy at the very idea of your own largely self-centered concept of the universe.

This is a person with a REAL concern, and I used to be just like him/her. You have NO RIGHT to impose your ideological perspective on someone who has a possible neurological disorder like epilepsy. It is rude and arrogant of you. I've also heard everything you've just said a thousand times, as well as read it myself, so you're not the 'lone guru' you imagine yourself to be.

Anonymous author - if your 'spaceouts' are disturbing or interfere with your activities on a frequent basis, definitely consult a neurologist or have EEG work done; the sooner the better. Epilepsy is a VERY complex disorder with extremely diverse symptoms that affects people in a number of ways, so you'll definitely want to rule it out ASAP. Then you can study it from a possible psychological standpoint. It may be a small panic attack that you're experiencing.

Whatever you do, DO NOT try to increase your depersonalization or embrace it as 'enlightenment.' That is an entirely different subject than what you're concerned about.

It's called 'depersonalization.' It's a common part of seizure activity, so if you're really bothered by it you might want to get a comprehensive EEG to rule out epilepsy. Some seizures aren't the 'fall on the ground' type. Some people feel that depersonalization for a little while, and that's a 'simple partial' seizure. Some feel the DP and then lose consciousness completely, wandering around lost, making chewing motions, etc. That's a 'complex-partial' seizure.

, yes I do it alot too sometimes often wonder WHO THE FUCK AM I. Like how did I come to be what am I doing. I do not like it either so yeah it's normal. Poisonflowers sounds logical about the depression thing since I am pretty depressed most of the time not now though.
