Emotions govern every moment of our lives?

Emotions are the driving force of our lives. They create the a sense of meaning in a world that that has no inherent meaning. They create a sense of value/meaning in life. This value/ meaning doesn't really exist.
Life has evolved for the continuation of Life. & it accomplishes this through deep rooted instincts and emotions in the unconscious brains of humans of which we have no direct control.
As we grow older our brains create unconscious beliefs that are validated as truth by the experiences we have. The more experiences we have that mirror that existing belief, the stronger our emotional response to it is.
This also makes letting go of these beliefs harder and harder.
Our emotions(& our unconscious) control all our actions as we try to avoid painful emotions and seek pleasurable emotions.
So, we are pre-programmed with no real free will.
& there is no value/meaning to life or universe.

Okay, say for example, you can remove emotion. What is the meaning then? It is more or less true/valid/fulfilling?

How can you say emotions have no meaning when meaning is derived as a response to said emotions. What is this meaning you are looking for?

Better yet, why are you telling me what I can and cannot attach meaning to? As if my body's chemical response to a stimulous is wrong and deceitful. Who made the rules?

I agree, the unconscious is very hard to let go of. The projections of others is a constant influence. How does one turn it off? What happens when you do figure it out?

But our unconscious is still a part of us no matter which way you spin it. It is how we balance it with our conscious mind as well as our emotional mind. The three work together to create our self.

    • My point was that life has only evolved for its own survival & that's the main function of our brain. There is nothing more to life than this.

No one uses logic. Any who do are looked upon as cold hearted. When really they are realistic.

Yes, but is there anything wrong with emotion governing some of your decisions? I mean I agree that some people take it too extreme, it should be in good balance with logic, because its part of life

There is no INTRINSIC meaning or value to the universe. That doesn't make the personal value we create for ourselves to be any less valid. Why is the question of the intrinsic meaning of life even an important one? We create our own meanings, so what if they are not intrinsic? (Rhetorical questions, but answer them if you so wish.)

Let me ask you a question. Not one that is intended to catch you out or anything like that; I'm only asking because it might clarify or highlight some thoughts that have been whizzing around my mind for the past few weeks. It's just a question, coming with it the assumption that everything you have said is entirely correct and logical. Here is the question:

Do you believe, because you have observed and realized that all human behaviour is governed by emotion, that you are free (either entirely or partially) from the grip of emotions on your free well?

    • As we have no direct control over emotions, so, no, I'm not free from emotions, not even partially.

But if you know that they are controlling your behaviour then can't you - for lack of a better word - "disobey" your emotions? You're not free from the emotions, but aren't you free of the control they have on you? At least to a point? If you know that your anger is trying to make you punch someone, can't you refuse to punch them. You're not free of emotions, but you're partially free of their grip. At least, that's what I conclude.

        • It is very possible to disobey emotions & most people often do it . It is also possible to get over them as the Buddhist Monks do, which takes a lot of practice. But, then again the emotions will be replaced by some different kind of emotions. The instincts can never be erased.

Doesn't that give you at least some control over your emotions then? If you can choose to replace them with different kinds of emotions?

            • Yes it does give you some control. But, it must take a lot of meditation. Must be hard.
