Emotional connection during sex?

I only recently experienced an emotional connection during sex, as did the person I experienced it with. When I mentioned this to someone they seemed shocked, which made me wonder how common these connections are.

I'm sorry to anyone who is offended that I'm not including transgendered people in this. I'm asking for GENDER, not SEX, so pick the one that fits you, but I'm not informed enough on the subject to do all the non-gendered queer stuff justice. I also don't care about orientation.

    What does the question mean? Does it mean "do you think it's normal?", "have you ever had it?", "do you usually have it?"...
