Is it normal to have a fear of elevators?
It's normal because you are enclosed in a box that is suspended by cables. There is always the underlying fear that it could break down and that you might be trapped.
Having said that, they are generally extremely safe!
Fear of elevators is not a bad thing all the time- just think of all the excercise you will get from walking up and down the stairs! :D--- But seriously usually what a fear of elevators relates to is claustrophobia (a fear of enclosed, tight spaces.) There are ways of overcoming this fear. If it starts to become a major problem for you (where it is decreasing your quality of life) then I would seek out a therapist.
I am terrified of elevators!!! I can be in one but I must have my back to the wall and clenching that bar thing for dear life. If one of my sisters thinks it's funny to jump while the elevator is moving, I am pretty much panicking!
i think it's not that uncommon. use the stairs.
all phobias are though to be outlets for other difficulties, who knows.
