Eat here or to go?

There's this chinese take-out and dine-in restaurant that I occasionally go to. Sometimes the chinese chef and his wife yell at each other in chinese. Since I don't understand chinese, I can't tell whether they're arguing or not. Is it normal?

It's just Cantonese, man. Mandarin, on the other hand, sounds elegant and beautiful.

some asian languages sound ridiculously loud. one for sure is cantonese. at first, i couldn't tell if they arguing or not. now, i kinda used to it. i'm asian too, i hate it when i hear my own voice over the speaker phone. my friend used to put me on speaker phone while talking. i can hear my own voice, it sounds strangely weird. can't do phone sex if you have a bad accent. argh... can't even pretend to sound cute ;(

Oh I had a similar incident while dining in. Thinking they were aguring - I kindly asked them if things were ok. Both replied that they were just discussing about tonight's menu.

So I have came to the conclusion that one's preception of an angry tone will probably won't apply to another language.

      That's disgusting.

I think it's normal for Chinese people to yell at each other in Chinese but not in another language.

    • Now you went and reminded me of a nasty occasion. I don't like crab AT ALL and some twat, many years ago thoought he'd prove I can and would like it. He made a dish with crab in it but told me it was just fish. I was sick for a week afterwards and have never touched crabs since.

I just tried some today and they're pretty good. They were shaped like crustaceans with a creamy filling. Have you tried the Pu Pu Platter?
