Ear plugs

Is it normal that I absolutely cannot sleep unless I wear earplugs? Even if there isn't any noise?

I am in the same situation except reversed. I'm a girl who's in love with my best guy friend. It's breaking my heart and I really feel you pain. Honestly, I don't think it's worth risking a really great friendship over telling someone how you feel. I wish I could tell him, though...but I would miss him too much if it ended badly...

Yup, same as an addiction. You Associate the earplugs with sleeping both consciously and subconsciously, making it hard to sleep without them!

    MYTH BUSTE-
    I mean.. Uh.. Normal!

when i was young my imagination used to create fake voices and noises. Wit hearplugs it actually made it worse, the only way i fixed that was by turning on a very loud fan in my room to remove all thought/noise.

i see no point in wearing earplugs though, unless you live in an apartment.

Many people have their "must have" things for when they sleep.

I felt bad that I had to tell my roommates to keep quiet at night because noise echoes around our apartment into my room downstairs, hehe. Perhaps you've gotten more sensitive to sound? I'm sure it happens to a lot of people.

Normal, probably not normal, but an indication of some sort of sleep-disorder, which I probably have too. So I "feel your pain".

I started wearing some from time to time too, when I couldn't fall asleep and hearing outside noises (traffic, etc.). That was occasionally, now I have been wearing them most every night for about 3 years now. I am a really light sleeper (if tossing and turning and half awake is considered sleep), and there are also critters that run around in the ceilings and walls of the house I am in (it's a 100 year-old house btw).

yeah, i had that problem i started using them then i stopped(for some reason), and that night i could not get to sleep!! omg.

then i starting using them again and everything was great. Then i stopped again, this time for good and the first like 5 nights without them were tough. but then i got over them. there were like drugs, an addiction almost.

maaybe thats whats wrong, you gotta quit them!!lol.

I second that...they are almost like an addiction. I have stopped before too, and started back up again.

How do you know there's no noise if you have ear plugs in?

PRAISE earplugs! I wear them when I study or just want absolute peace and quiet. I can't sleep without them and can't figure out how I did before.

Normal in a kind of not very normal way. I mean, I know only one person who sleeps with earplugs in. But it's not like it's disturbingly strange or anything.

I sleep with earphones on with some music playing. Kind of messes up the cords and puts myself at slight risk of choking, so I'd say earplugs are a safer choice.

I wear earplugs because i work permanent nights and cant stand daytime and household noise.I would have no chance without them.
