Every time I eat at a restaurant and see a family of more than 3, it really makes me wonder why these people are acting so irresponsibly.
Way back when, with the need for unpaid help on the farm, and infant mortality at 50% or better, there was a valid reason to have a lot of children.
Today, it's irresponsible, selfish and pretty cruel. No child likes wearing "hand me downs" sharing a bed or not getting enough attention from their parents.
Never mind, overpopulation, it just makes absolutely no sense, and since most huge families can't get by without government assistance, a burden on others.

Psh I came from a large family and I grew up happy. I never had to share a bed and hand me downs aren't even all that bad, I hated shopping for clothes anyway. I also got plenty of attention from my parents. They worked hard to support us and keep us happy and I learned to appreciate what I got. So, you know, quit generalizing.

I am happy for you and I did indeed generalize, but what else can one do?
No matter how happy you were, or how good an upbringing you had, the basic point is that it is totally irresponsible and selfish to have a lot of children in today's world.

No its not, as long as the couple love each other AND are responsible to love how many children they have there is no harm in having a large happy family now a days, as long as they are not scroungers thats OK with me

          • That's fine, as that is your opinion. My opinion is that it's irresponsible at best. No matter what kind of upbringing those kids have or how much love/attention those kids in big families get the simple fact is they are more human beings polluting the planet, which is unavoidable given consumption of resources. Having 5 kids instead of 3 is not necessarily a bad thing, but you can't knock the fact it creates more waste/pollution on a planet we all have to share.

    It depends on the family.

Quite frankly, it pisses me off to hear people instantly write off having three or more kids as immoral. I know many families that have three or more kids and that are very happy and loving. About as many as I know households with one or two children in which the family is miserable.

I WILL say this. If the parent(s) can foster a happy, healthy environment for the children and can reasonably support them (oh boo hoo hand me downs, I shop at the thrift store even when I can afford new clothes. Materialism isn't God.) Then they have every right and reason to have as many as they want. Yes. Have. Don't give me that double standard of a woman can choose abortion but having children is a personal choice that she should be crucified for. If a Mother can't Mother a child that isn't hers and wishes to have her own and can support them, it's her damned business and his too.

The people we should be focusing on, as a society, are the people who produce children they can't feed. I know women who have three kids who threw them all into state or church custody. They're the assholes, here. It's not the job of loving families to pay penance for the idiocies of indiscriminate breeders. Give them the room and acceptance to build our society and who knows, maybe they will breed these jackass out the gene pool.

It's not fair to the older kids who end up raising their younger siblings.

I'm not going to pass judgement on someone for having a lot of children. If you like children, and you like raising them, and you are dedicated enough to take care of them all, then more power to you.

The people who do it for religious reasons scare me a little though.

Well that is true, many of those women who have loads of kids ARE very religious, they say such things as " We will leave our family size to the Lord or God, the Duggars were a good example of that, they had 19 children

The last thing the earth needs is an abundance of humans, we are absolutely destroying this place. That being said, if I were to have a child, I'd want him/her to have a sibling. The again I could always adopt instead of recreate...

3 to 6 is big enough, otherwise kids will get neglected.

They are in a cult. I don't agree with their religious beliefs. As far as I'm concerned 1. Its rather barbaric to make your eldest children basically raise the continuous supply of younger children while the actual parents sit on their ass with their inability to keep their hands off of each other. 2. God's will my fucking ass. That woman has been told by her doctor's that she basically needs to stop because these pregnancies are taken a toll on both her body and the body of the unborn child. Why do you think they had that premie that died? I doubt highly that if their deity existed and cared, that he wouldn't want them to risk lives along with the other things they claim their deity makes them do. 3. It's again barbaric to deny higher education (university) to your female children as well as to force them into a role. A good parent would want the best for their child and support/help them to see that these dreams come to fruition. They certainly have enough cash to do this. 4. The earth is already over populated as it is. 5. I feel terribly sorry for any child they have that might find themselves not to be straight. I'd hate to see how they would react. 6. Unsurprisingly, these people are apparently conservatives and there have been reports saying that they are also racists. The father claimed that Obama was like Hitler. That guy doesn't understand anything about history much less about anything. I can't take such stupidity seriously in general. 7. In many ways, they are setting their children up for failure but making them lead such sheltered and biased lives.

Abuse to their kids. Making the older kids do the jobs of mommy and daddy cause mommy is too busy popping out kids to actually care for them.
