Drinking blackouts

I'm a girl, 18, 5'7" english (so can legally drink) and I seem to black out every time I drink, like the night is a picture, and someone took a shotgun to it. I don't think I drink that much, the last time I blacked anything out, I'd had 1 pint of strongbow and 2 pernod shots with mixers in 2 1/2 hours, and I had a blackout about 3 hours after i started drinking.
Also, some of my trusted friends have told me things that have happened which aren't bad, and are plausible, but I dont remember at all. I also don't remember things that happened 2 minutes ago when I've been drinking, but it's like I didn't forget, it was just never set to my memory. None of my friends particularly seem to get these much either.

    my dad has these
during one of these blackouts he decided he was gonna try and perform an abortion on my mam by beating her
she was pregnant with me at the time..

a couple years ago he was rushed into hospital
with pancreitis ( not sure if i spelt it right )
and after 2 days at hospital he had an ulcer bust
he was rushed into intensive care
where he was for about 6 month
    aways unconciuos
we could on could only see him 2 people at a time
and there was 5 of us there
i had to go in on my own
and when i was standing there he flatlined
i was only 10 years old

the fact that you black out means that you just shouldnt drink because it means you aready have an intolerence to the alchol
the black outs will get longer and stronger where you will not act like yourself
    you need to stop drinking
and if you dont stop drinking atlease drink a little
i would never wish what iwent thro on anyone including your future children so for them and everyone around you stop!

I have a VERY high tolerance for alcohol. I can drink 10-12 hard liquor drinks and not black out, puke, or anything. The next morning I can even tell you what the last thing I said was before going to bed that night drunk.

That doesn't make it a good thing. In fact I had to quit. Booze will kill you. If you're BLACKING OUT from alcohol, sweets, I would stay the fuck away from booze like the plague.

Your body obviously reacts poorly to alcohol. There's nothing wrong with that. It's just like being allergic to peanuts or something like that.

I agree with BigRedOne. Blackouts are some of the first signs of alcoholism. Stop the frequency that you're partying and I'd limit yourself to 2 or 3 mixed drinks total. Bad stuff can happen when you're on autopilot. What happens if you tell someone something hurtful and ruin y'alls relationship because you were on autopilot? Like I said - these are the first signs of alcoholism and you need to make a conscious effort to revert yourself from drinking as much and as often as you do. I'm not saying you drink every weekend, but even a handful of times a year is enough for some people.

Is the Occurrence of Blackouts a Sign of Alcoholism?

Much popular literature holds that alcohol blackouts are a warning sign of alcoholism. This is false.

While blackouts are a warning sign of binge drinking, there is no evidence that people who experience blackouts are at any increased risk to develop an alcohol addiction.

The mistaken belief that blackouts cause alcoholism seems to originate out of early research on blackouts that was performed using subjects from AA meetings. Since most AA members reported having had blackouts, it was concluded falsely that blackouts were a sign of alcoholism (Sort or like…since almost all AA members wear shoes – wearing shoes must be a sign of alcoholism!)

Just to clarify a bit more, when I black out, I don't lose control or act differently to how I normally do when I'm drunk, or lose conciousness.

I know that's the case now that you don't act differently, but I think other people on here have made a valid point that your body clearly doesn't react well to alcohol. Therefore, I would be very careful about pushing that limit, because you never know when it could worsen.

Also, you need to be very careful of the company you're in when drinking, because if you're blacked out anything could happen. I'm also English and I wish I could say I've never seen people do anything but try to help, but that's not the case. I always help people when they're vulnerable, but some people prefer to prey on them. BE VERY CAREFUL!

im 20 and have been drinking only for 4 years...in the past year i've started drinking quite often, at least for me. and in the past year i started slowly forgetting evenings after drinking quite a bit - though up until a few weeks ago i was forgetting evenings every week. got a bit out of hand so i jus stopped drinking wen i got tipsy...if i were u i'd go get checked up cos urs sounds a lot more serious - it is a symptom of being an alcoholic so yeah jus don drink and go get it checked up :)

I had a chat to a paramedic on Friday, apparently I'm just sensitive to that particular effect :)

I've been drinking for almost a year now, not constantly though, and have only blacked out once. If it keeps happening, something is not quite right. Try cutting back a bit on those drinks.

This is not good, you should do something about this. now. my father had a friend who commonly had these blackouts because of years of alcohol abuse. he had one of these blackouts while up a ladder, he fell, and hit his head on a radiator killing him instantly. for your own good, please go and see a doctor, or at least, cut down on the drink.

i get this almost every time i drink, in the summer i always drink alot cause all my friends drink almost every day. im only 18 and am not legal as i am from canada. sometimes i black out and peopel tell me that ive dont sometihing really stupid and i can sometimes vaguley remember it but usually not at all, and it always either gets me in trouble or gets me embarrised. its been getting pretty bad since i hang out at a skatepark and everyone seems to get rowdy come nightfall.
but yea i black out amost every time, it sucks because now im pretty much an alcoholic and i have no job and i usually do chores for liquor money for my friends grandma LOL.
luckily me and my family are going for a whole month road trip to the USA im very excited, im going to get to quit drinkang and smoking pot and cigarrets all together. when i come home im gonan get job and my own place.

Maybee you should quit drinking to, it really can ruin your life belive me

I think it's a very good idea that you take the trip and take some time off because clearly alcohol does not mix well with you. It's nothing to be ashamed of and it's more frequent than you know, but it's also not easy to stop once you've started. Can I suggest that, unless your family is causing you problems that you can't deal with (I'm talking BIG problems here), maybe it would be better to stay close to home for a while? If you have your own place, it's very easy to either get bored and have parties or get bored and get drunk/stoned alone. If you're still battling with those issues, it might actually help you to be under the watchful eye of your family (thought it may not feel like that at the time!)
Of course, this might not be relevant to your situation, but it could be worth thinking about. Best of luck.

I know you said you don't drink alot, but it might have something to do with how often you drink? I agree with Ollieo you definitely are sensitive to alcohol, as you are legally allowed to drink I suggest making an appointment with your doctor. I know certain people who black out once they've consumed alot of alcohol, so the doctor might know more about it. Good Luck though :)

try drinking beer or alcohol that isnt 80 proof. Just drink weaker liquor then you can drink more without getting all fucked up.
