Dressing like a white guy

Im an African American male and i like to wear cloths that i think are normal. I stay away from cloths that are hip-hop/rap, and i steer towards the rockstar look. What troubles me is that when ever i see black guys that are dressed similar to me downtown(Chicago) they are either gay or behaving questionably. The only straight looking black guys i see are dressed like rappers or hip-hoppers. Already i cant wear a Mohawk, wallet chain, tall boots, nose ring, wristbands none of that stuff because they make it look gay. Does anyone else notice that?

well maybe your are gay. come out of the closet and then you can wear anything you want - nose ring, tall boots, panty, bra, strap on, whatever.

Just be yourself and stop all the bullocks alright.

Dude i dont want to be racist but most of my black friends dont really dress like there into hip hop. They dress normal. They get alot of girls because they are cool and funny, but they also dress like they have some money, have a goal in life and have some common sence.

Not normal. You know, all black people dress like they're thugs. It's odd if you don't.

Who are you kidding? Of course it's normal.

but isn't he being a stereotype if he's "dressing like a white guy"?

There's nothing wrong with not being a stereotype.

Wear whatever the heck makes you happy even if you wore the typical rapper type clothing people would still make judgements about you, so why not be happy while you give people something to talk about.

well I don't think that you have to change your style of clothes just cuz what others think. you know you're not gay so don't worry bout what they think. There's no certain kind of clothes assigned to a certain race. If ppl think that you're gay just by what you wear, that's stereo type anyways. I think its cool that you're breaking out of a stereo type. Wear what you want to wear, if people don't want to be your friends anymore or look down on you for what you wear, who needs em anyways. They're not good friends. Clothes don't define who you are as a person. What you look like doesn't define who you are as a person. Just think, some africans from ethiopia wear RAGS and what they wear doesn't define them.

u don't have to wear hip-hop clothes if your black. white ppl wear them too. its more of a trend and you can pick any trend u want, get out of town and u will see that us blacks dress in a variety of ways. im from new orleans so u know i have seen all kinds of things. i am an african american female and it doesn't matter if i dress hip-hip[ish] or if i wear hollister, A&E or ambercrombie and fitch. as long as i be myself i am accepted. just be yourself dude damn.

my first serous boyfriend was a black metalhead. no one ever thought he was gay. i think it depends on whether you're dressing punk or scenester. if you're dressing like an actual punk, you won't look gay, but dressing like a scenester makes EVERY guy look gay, but without the fashion-sense.

if you want to avoid looking like one of those emo-scenester-whatever kids, you can do a mohawk, but not a faux-hawk. don't wear those horrible "skinny jeans" that are tight around the ankles, but baggy in the butt. if you want to wear a wallet chain, do it, just make sure it's decently chunky. dye your hair green or blue or something if you want, but don't dye just one streak. DON'T do the emo-mullet!!!!!

Where im from clothing isn't a racial thing. I wouldn't think you wre gay if I saw you dressed like that..

  • SmartAleck

yep. only thing not normal is people believing just because you are a certain color you have to act a certain way.

P.s. There is no dressing white/black, unless your clothes are all white.

I'm black and I dress however the hell i want. I could easily wear Abercrombie or American Eagle or Hollister or something from hot topic or Rocawear or Ecko or LRG or Lot29 or Sean Jean or Lacoste or Chaps or Rusty of Unionbay (okay maybe not unionbay that stuff just sucks) but dude. who cares?? i know other black people think i dress white and then some white people think a dress "thuggish" at times and even like a "whiteboy" on occassion (yeah from white people themselves) i honestly dont care. Its about how i feel and what i like to wear.

and only get a nose ring if its like tupac otherwise youd be sending the wrong message. same thing with tall boots...(G-A-Y) lol. naw man do what you do just expect people be all happy go lucky about it. stop worrying about other peoples minds cause there aint nothing you can do to change it. it aint yours to change.

I understand this completely. All my life I've went to all black schools since I'm African

American and my neighborhoods were close to them and I can't tell you how many people label me as either 'gothic' or 'emo' because I wear a lot of black and back when my hair used to be longer I used to wear it over my eyes (still do).

Most people can't except the way you think and it's best just to ignore them. If you are what you say you are they can't say anything to make you what they want you to be, okay?

You can wear whatever you want.

The fact that you call it "dressing like a white guy" reveals your complex. No it's not normal (the complex). The clothes you can find in any corner clothing store.

Big question: when white guys' clothing styles change, will yours change with it?

why do you have to black to wear "hip hop" clothes and why do you have to be white to wear "rocker" clothes. FUCK. what happened to individual style?! why does everyone wanna classify themselves so much, aren't we all just humans.

  • matman40uber

why the fuck can white guys wear hip/hop clothing then. It looks just stupid. Everytime i see a white guy with a fucking baseball cap turned in some obscure direction, or pants around there knee's or sweaters long enough to be dresses i want to shoot them.
    it bloody ridiculous.
And i wouldn't worry about looking gay. Chicks dig gay looking guys. They're tidy.

There is nothing like dressing like white or black or pupple guy!! one dresses up as what one feels like! similarly there is no dress code for gays or straight! wear what you like to wear! if you like to be casual, be one, its like what you want to be yourself! and professionaly also it matters, imagine Mr. obama wearing hip-hop clothing(as you say its black clothing) or make him wear nose rings and rockstar clothes( like the white boys) in both he would not be what a president should look like. one should dress, acording to age and fashion and likingness and comfort. not just because i want ot be like that or not like someone. discover yourself and be what you are. i am an english boy and my best friend is a black boy from capetown. he never behaves as the tv shows- american black people, he speaks in the finest king's english and dresses for all ocassions like a grand personality. i donot know why you have everything marked black and white. we are humans and we should wear what we like.

eminenm dresses in hip-hop clothes, ted hamilton like a rockstar and Mr. obama like a grand class gentle man, look its all attitude and your own personality!!

Why do you care what other people thunk of what you wear?? Wear what you want, be an individual, not one of the many look-alikes! Don't feel you have to wear what others think African-Americans should wear, be you own unique person!! That is one of the many things that make you, you, and not "oh, just some other dude"

Don't put so much emphasis on race, just because you are black does not mean you have to play up to black stereotypes. If thats how you feel comfy then keep dressing that way, and if anybody says anything just forget it and move on.

it must suck to be black, but as long as your trying to be one of the "white brothas" we can accept you as long as you are disgraced by your own race (which you should be)

you can be the opposite of a "wigger", i'll call it "bracker" like "cracker" but with a b
