Dream i am awake

About once a month, I have dreams where I believe I am awake. They often occur after naps or broken sleep. I will feel like I am awake in my house trying to accomplish something. Sometimes it will be simple like thinking I set an alarm, other times there will be someone at the door or something has happened and I am trying to deal with it. It's kind of hard to explain, but basically I dream I am awake then I realize I am sleeping. This happens about ten times before I actually wake up. I usually have a headache and I am pretty spaced out for about half an hour. Anyone ever have this happen? IIN?

It's called a "false awakening". I have had it happen to me several times, usually while taking naps during the day.

There is something else called sleep paralysis that I find very interesting where your body is asleep but your mind is awake. you can open your eyes but you can't move and you can see your room but you hallucinate. These dreams can be very frightening. It feels like you have a huge weight on your chest because your body is dormant causing slow breathing that your brain is not used to if it is awake. crazy.

It's called lucid dreaming. If you realize you are dreaming while in a dream you should be able to control what goes on. A lot of people try and work toward lucid dreaming. A way to see if you are in a lucid dream is to look at text and see if you can read it. or flip on a light switch to see if it turns on. another thing is to fall aleep with a bracelet or something on every night and see if you are wearing it in your dream or not. Some people feel as if they are stuck in a dream and cannot wake themselves. That would be really scary I think.

It's a sleeping disorder, in other words you need to sleep more. Google it is very common.

Thanks! Yes I figured it was from lack of sleep seeing as how it happens when I have a broken sleep. Do you know the name of the sleeping disorder?

It's called false awakening it's normal and not a sleeping disorder. You just somehow always seem to have it. Sorry I'm late.

This happens to me. It's annoying when you realize you haven't actually accomplished a thing!

Yes! I know exactly what you are talking about. I have had dreams where I thought I was awake lying in bed half asleep...It is strange because everytime this happens, it happens over and over again in one morning.
I have actually been late for meeting because of this. I would dream that I was lying in bed, and I would look at the clock and see that it is 6.00, so in my dream I go back to sleep, when in reality, it is past noone....I think this is the same thing that you are talking about.

Yes that is exactly what I am talking about haha. It's a real pain. It can get scary sometimes too. I have heard cars outside my house and people trying to get up. I then get up and run to the door like 5 times before I actually wake up and realize nobody is there. But usually it is just simple things like checking the clock or putting on clothes. I was late for work once too because of it. Glad to hear someone knows what I am talking about.
