Dream: getting married to a complete stranger?

I am a young (currently single) man going back to college.
Through the years I have had this dream that occurs every so often; It's never the same setting or 'place' but the theme is consistent. I find myself all tuxedo'd up and surrounded by happy friends and family, congratulating me just before my wedding.
This would all be fine and dandy except that I have absolutely no idea who the bride is. I spend the majority of the dream panicking and trying to find some explanation as to what is going on, or to find a possible way out so I can learn just who I am engaged to before we tie the knot. I almost always pass back out of 'dream reality' before I get any answers. Once I found out who I was to marry in one dream, she was a girl from my childhood, but that didn't help the whole 'Hold it, WTF is going on?' feeling.

They happen once or twice a year (since high school), but they are always vivid and mentally draining.
I can't figure it out. I strongly believe marriage is lifelong, so that is why the concept of marrying a stranger is disturbing to me.
Anything similar? Any ideas as to why this happens?

I have the same dream only I see the groom an I don't know who he is. I
Also saw him in two other dreams not as my groom, just the same face. But its reoccurring an annoying..

I just had a similar dream last night. I've never had a "getting married" dream (that I remember). I was dreaming that I was getting married to a girl I knew in high school (had a crush on her back then). That was over 15 years ago, and I haven't seen or heard from her since. In essence, she is a stranger...

I remember that I was at the reception hall before the wedding, and my whole family was there and they were all excited. I also remember seeing people that I barely knew (again from HS). I remember that I though it was odd that I was getting married to her. I couldn't remember seeing her recently, and I remember mentioning that we hadn't done any practice run (I was getting freaked out that I couldn't figure out how this came about, or why I was getting married to her).

Here's the twist: I'm engaged, but my GF was nowhere in the dream (I didn't even think about her in the dream and nobody mentioned her.)

I don't assign to much meaning to my dreams, but this one does leave me feeling a little bit weird...

You obviously holdbthe commitment in high regards which tells me you've been rsised/exposed to people who do the same. My guess: your starting to feel the pressure of needing to get married but don't have a prospect yet. Take your time and don't get the end (love) confused with the means (marriage)

May have nothing to do with marriage...I every so often have a reocurring dream that I'm back in college freaking out because I haven't made it to a single class and have to take my finals...every dream is a different campus but the theme is always the same...have fun with it at least your dreaming

I once heard that everone in our dreams represents a certain aspect of ourselves. Maybe keeping this in mind will help you figure out the true meaning of the dream next time it occurs. Dreams are our subconscious speaking to us.
