Don't feel like i am secure at my job

I recently graduated college and have been at my job for about a year, it is an IT job. I don't feel like I do much here. It is a sort of 'learn as you go/need to' type thing and I have someone I work directly with but we rarely talk or see each other. I get assigned to do things and then through the course of completing the work there are long pauses, like days, that I try to fill with learning more or just doing whatever I can to not feel like I'm completely wasting time. I got a bonus that I have to give back if I get fired or quit within a certain period. I don't plan on quitting at all because I do like it here. I just worry about getting fired because I'm not doing anything useful and my bills plus the bonus add to the stress of getting fired. I have had a couple regularly scheduled reviews already where my actual boss, who I speak to even less frequently, has said I am doing good and progressing well but I don't know if that's true or he doesn't care or he is just saying it because he is non confrontational.

Anyway, is my experience typical or should I worry about losing my job?

Im in the same situation man. My work is higher quality an more efficient then the people I work with so I have tons of time so just stand around and comment on IIN. My boss always says "stop standing around". I literally have zero things to do since I finish my work to fast. I feel the same way you do. Like I am going to be fired for being an efficient worker.

Excellent. You are in a good position to play the game effectively. Find out what skills are in short supply in your area. Server side JavaScript and C# are always in demand. Work overtime for yourself by doing your own made up instructional project to gain experience. I always did this on Saturday mornings to stay at the leading edge of evolving technology. The process is called resume building.

    Get motivated. It shows.

I think it's the transition in atmosphere that's getting to you

Graduate schools are all hardcore with the amount of studying and work you have to do, plus you are around a bunch of people (students) who are the most open-minded and social bunch compared to a crowd you might find elsewhere.

You are fine. Keep learning more stuff, _maybe_ even asked for an extra assignment. Some workplaces dont bombard recruits with heavy workload, they ease them in.

Do you think worrying and stressing out is going to insure your continued employment? Is there anything you can do, other than what you are doing that will insure your continued employment? If the answer to both those questions is no, then relax. In today's uncertain economic climate, NOBODY has a guaranteed job, so go with the flow and do the best you can.
