Im just playing devils advocate but how exactly does seeing nudity hurt a child? There are tribes that have partial or sometimes full nudity as a daily custom and their children grow up fine, albeit different to us but still fine and unhurt.

because our society is built around boundaries and constraints. Through hundreds of years we have built acceptable norms and values and its important children get introduced to them slowly, thats part of the reason for schools. Some tribes people eat other people but you wouldn't consider that.

Ok then what about a family of nudists? I'm sure that children within these families grow up unhurt and normal. Tribes being cannibals is a common fallacy, there are probably more cannibals within civilized society nowadays. I read some papers that concluded that if infants were treated more like adults and not left in front of cartoons and playing with toys all day then they would develop some neurological pathways a lot faster which in turn would help them become more mentaly mature at a younger age, instead we treat children like flippin retards and thats what you have for the first 4 or 5 years, a totally dependant, stupid child.

To thetimeofyour life. I agree totally. My children were never talked to in "baby talk," Why should we teach children such rubbish? They were talked to like little adults. Both of them learned to read by age 2.

That is just not true. The brain is not fully developed until the eearly 20's in most people, but like every other measure of living things, it varies with individuals. Some people learn to do abstract reasoning very early. Some never achieve it, maybe not even Piaget, the psychologist who started that whole debate.

Cannibalism is irrelevant to nudity. Cannibalism invoilves hurting and killing people. Nudity is harmless. Your argument is simply stupid. Children brought up in nudist families turn out just fine.

Babies have very early naturally-developing sexuality. Male babies have been seen masturbating in the womb before they are born. My second son, at age 2, was found by his mother to take off his diaper and hump a Playboy centerfold picture. He certainly was not taught to do that. He did not "suffer" from this experience. He is a grown man and a lawyer and a father now.

Sexuality should be taught as young as bloody possible. Our kids are turned out at 18 way too old, when there is bush on the field you can go out and play. This is the bodies indicator you are a developed adult. That transition period from young adult to age 25 where you are full developed adult is critical. You should graduate high school by 14, hell even then is pretty slow. 18 years to learn such simple things seems silly, at 14 you should be done and indited into the social pole without being over shadow by "guardian". The whole time should be spent working from birth but 14 is the age you do it all on your own, and form your own self.

when janet jackson's wardrobe malfunction happened a few years ago on superbowl sunday, i talked to some woman on the internet who was outraged bc her five year old boy had been watching the game. When i asked her exactly how seeing a breast would damage a small child she had no real answer. I thought that was very interesting.

Nudity is completely normal, after all we are born naked. The Human body is a beautiful piece of Art, and should be viewed as such.

Porn on the other hand is not good for children.

Unfortunately we live in a society where the naked body is perceived as being " dirty", and it's a shame.

  • GoraIntoDesiGals

There's nothing wrong with a kid watching porn. I watched porn as early as nine or so. The belief that it's wrong is a social construct and the only real harm done to the kid is how certain adults will frown upon them as having had 'poor upbringing' in violation of said social construct.

If it is overtly sexual, then yes, until a certain age. If it is not sexual, and they are taught that nudism is not the norm in society, then it is a acceptable. It could even be a good thing if people are more aware of the differences in eachother's bodies.

Girls ages 5 , 6 , 7 already know what the male cock and nuts look like.
They have experimented with their brothers.
They have seen their brother's and Daddy's cock and nuts in the bathroom and in the shower.
5 th graders , age 10 are already having sex and they talk about sex in the cafeteria in school when eating lunch.

Children are curious about their own bodies from a very young age. Even infants explore their own little bodies, and it is definitely not sexual in any way. If we scold children when they find their genitals then they are being taught that area is something probably interesting (you know, kids like to do the opposite of what they're told). However, if you allow them to understand the human body, and teach them the difference between private and public places then they are already off to a good start. Wouldn't you want your child to better articulate what happened if someone assaulted them?
The human body is natural and beautiful and should never be seen as shameful or bad. Maybe the amount of body dysmorphic disorder incidences would go down if children are taught at an early age that their bodies are fine the way they are!

    Porno nudity, yes.

Showing the former to a child is tantamount to abuse.

nothing wrong with kids seeing nudity as long as it's not porn - one of the many reasons is that kids shouldn't be exposed to sex in such a misinterpreted way . I agree with the above qoute that porn is a demeaning and shallow respresentation of the beautiful human body full of boundless potential as depicted, for instance, in the works of the classical artists. Are we to close the eyes of our 8 year old so he won't see the nude statues in a museum?(that what my parents did to me. but me and my brother later "got lost" and found our way back to the forbidden nudity. because yeah children are curious and closing their eyes make them even more curious). There is nothing innately sexual about nakedness but it is the judea-christian fear of that potential sexuality that distorted the western mind to make them somehow inseperable. The human body is an amazing thing and children should understand that- it is nothing too be ashamed or embarassed about and nakedness doesn't automatically mean sex!. The earlier they learn it the better. In my house we are often nude and it makes things so much easier- no embarassment, no shame, all those "ackward" questions are just answered naturally.
it is not normal for humans to be constantly hiding their bodies under some disguise (when not necessary)- it's psychologically disturbing in fact. Why are we afraid to be naked?

My daughter (11)has been exposed to nudity in a book all about the human body. Skeleton, muscle, skin, veins, all that stuff. If its for educational purposes or accidentally walking in on me when I'm changing, its fine. Plus puberty is on its way. Oi vay. I don't really want her exposed to sexual nudity at this time. children are asexual when they are little but trying to increase their curiosity at such a young age is what is wrong with society today. they claim its teaching them that there is nothing wrong with being naked and the human body which is true but it is increasing their curiosity at such a young age that by the time theyre 12 they are curious about much more than nudity. thats when they experiment with sex and not knowing the risks of pregnancy or disease. children start off as not having sexual feelings but then they begin to wonder about sex at an earlier age when they are made to see what everything is and where it is meant to go. i personally dont agree with it.

teaching your children about the birds and the bees at an early age IS a good thing. After all we are born naked and nudity should never be conceived as a dirty or shameful thing.

Children are curious at every age, whether they are exposed to nudity or not. It's up to the parents to teach them right from wrong including the reproductive stages that make children. Honestly, I would rather my children know about that stuff as early as possible than learn it the wrong way from their friends on the back of the bus coming home from Elementary School.

Teaching your children about the repercussions of unsafe sex and how to protect themselves once they hit sexual maturity is a great thing, and I suggest every parent do so. I hate parents that want Sex Ed ban from schools when they themselves don't even bother to teach their kids either. Bottom line, kids will have sex whether you want them to or not, but you being a parent it is your responsibility to make sure that if they do decide to have sex to be smart about it and know the risks.

As for the naked body, it should be perceived as beautiful, a natural work of art. If young children are brought up that way then they will perceive the naked body as something to respect, appreciate, and not to be ashamed and love their own bodies. ( public breast feeding would not be an issue, after all breast feeding is a natural task and should be viewed as such)

Porn on the other hand depicts the Human body in a demeaning manner, and should be kept far away from children.
