Does it sounds like i have a tapeworm?

So, I'm 18, about 5'5'', and I only weigh 95 pounds.
I know that sounds bad, but trust me, I eat ALL the time, I usually have snacks through-out the day, and other stuff, to put it in a nutshell, I love food, and usually the food I eat isn't too healthy.

Yet, for some reason I can't ever gain weight, and trust me, I find it just as confusing as you do, but then I started to think about tapeworms and how they usually eat the food it's host eats. (I'm not sure if that's how it works, but oh well.)

Anyway, does it sound like I have a tapeworm?

Yes it does, see a doctor. 16

Sounds like you just have a high metabolism to me. My younger brother is the same way. He has to eat high-calorie foods multiple times a day just to maintain weight; if he skips lunch he loses weight. His main diet consists of protein drinks, ramen noodles and biscuits & gravy, but you would never know it from looking at him. He claims being underweight is just as bad as being overweight, because according to him other guys think he's a wimp and girls typically go after guys who have muscle definition. Not to mention the fact that people sometimes get on his case for "having an eating disorder" even though he hates being thin and wishes he could gain about 30 - 40 pounds...

He might want to get a bit of help from a nutritionist. Though I'm sure you are glossing over his diet, most of what you did mention was very high in fat and that can lead to heart and circularity problems.

    • He won't have to worry about that problem when he gets older.

You probably just have a high metabolism and I think you'd know if you had a tapeworm : / Because they take the nutrition from your food, you'd probably be feeling unwell and notice that you weren't getting enough nutrients. It's also quite hard to get a tapeworm these days if you live in a western country. Pin worms (or thread worms) on the other hand - it's easier to pick those up, so don't bite your nails and be aware of where your hands have been before you put them in your mouth or whatever in public. They're not as dangerous as tapeworm, though. Anyway, you will probably find that your metabolism slows down a little over the next few years. Lots of 18 year-olds are like you.

  • Holy cow!

Growing up my sister was just like you and she went to the Doctor and she had a 12 foot tape worm growing in her !

They had to perform surgery to get it out!!

    Nah, just kidding :)

You probably just have a very fast metabolism. I had one and still have one :)

When I was younger I could never gain a pound from eating. I'd eat anything and everything and in 1-2 days it's all gone. I had a friend like that too and he was like 6'2 so real skinny, lol. When I got older and we started drinking I also never got fat and could almost out drink anyone and had no problem maintaining while other guys fall down, couldn't drive some pass out others go to sleep etc. :)

Still had to piss like a race horse though, lol.

Anyway if you're lucky you'll keep your fast metabolism until you're really old.
Your girlfriends will hate you for it and guys will love you for it :)

Yah just read what some other poster wrote about worms. Google parasite medicine or how to kill parasites and you'll find health stuff to kill them if you got em.

    One thing to note is:

If you let pets/animals lick your lips or if you eat sushi a lot then you very could have parasites no joke. And of course never eat raw meat. Make sure everything is cooked very well, especially pork.

    • I don't like sushi or any kind of seafood,
and I never let my pets kiss me on the mouth, oh and I'm very paranoid about eating bad food, so I make sure everything is cooked right.

      • Great! Then I bet you're fine.

If you want to try an experiment this is probably the best way for you to gain weight if that's what you want even if it's just to see if you've got a worm.

Ok, so to gain weight you should only eat 1 meal a day and do it late at night.
Pig out just before you go to sleep.

The reason why this makes people fat is:

When you only eat once per day your body goes into a kind of survival mode and it ends up storing the food as fat because it doesn't know when it's going to eat again. Also every time you eat you stimulate your metabolism which burns fat. If you only eat once per day.. well you're not turning it on much. People that skip meals/snacks and eat once per day also tend to eat more to make up for skipping the other meals and snacks.

When you eat late at night you're obviously not using much energy cause you're just going to sleep so that food turns to fat.

Be a sloth. Don't exercise let those calories turn to fat.

        4. Of course if you're trying to gain weight you can start taking some weight gain powder or eat foods that make you gain weight. Research.

Ah I just reread your post and noted where you said you eat snacks throughout the day. That's great if you're trying to lose weight because you're stimulating your metabolism every time you snack. In fact that's a technique to lose weight : eat about 5 or 6 tiny snack sized meals a throughout the day and obviously eat healthy and exercise.

And one more point, if you're Asian then you're normal weight is less than other girls. Asian girls usually are not fat or very meaty or big boned.

LOL. Ok there you have it.

It could be either, you do have worms, or you have a fast metabolism. To me, I think you just have a fast metabolism. But if you do have worms, then you'd probably be able to feel them around your bum hole >.< but you can get tablets for them un-prescribed that kill them from your intestines and the outside of you. Then take then after another 2 weeks to just make sure, and make sure you wash everything and clean your flannels and stuff. You don't wanna get them again!

I had a friend who would lose weight if he didn't drink a six pack of beer daily, no matter how much he ate, and he ate a lot; high metabolism; lucky bastard!
On the other hand if you had a tapeworm, you'd see bits of it in your stool from time to time.
In the 1930's they sold tapeworms in a powder as a weight loss system, until the government figured out how dangerous they were. Now a days, with all the research on weight versus heart disease, perhaps it could once again be a viable weight loss system, if properly managed.

    • Seems more like alcoholism to me. Alcohol withdrawal is a good way to lose weight and go into dts. I would rather lose weight by doing the dp.

Alright you only get tapeworms from eating food not prepared correctly, or sometimes food from an exotic region, or stepping in or having poop infect you of something that has it. Which puts you at risk if you have dogs, cats, animals, pets. You are not magically going to get a tape worm out of no where. You also do not list how you believe you may have contracted a tape worm. You seem to believe you were just born with it. People with a high metabolism do not gain a lot of weight. You burn calories on how much your body burns to operate. If you have a high metabolism might sweat more and burn a lot more even when your not doing a lot. Also eating fast burning sugars helps since it burns right away. Carbs however stick around and turn straight into fat. So it also might depend on your diet. As well as that things like sleeping and stuff does burn calories.

        • Yeah, I should of added a bit of info.
However, I strongly believe I have just a high metabolism, and not a tapeworm, my dad also has a high metabolism, so I guess it's a family thing.

Watch me become overweight when I get older.
