It depends on the kind of joke. A sarcastic play on words might show intelligence; a crack about an ass crack might not.

    Silly question.

There are jokes that require greater intelligence and cultural knowledge to understand, and there are jokes that require a base level of intelligence and no cultural knowledge to understand.

The dumb and the bright are united by their ability to laugh at that which they find funny. The End.

I was actually thinking the complete opposite.

I can sit with very intelligent people who politely laugh at a little joke but then I can sit in the pub with a crowd of builders and can cry with laughter for hours. The latter have no inhibitions and the humour can range from the sublime to the ridiculous! But one thing's for sure, I always have a brilliant night out with the tradesmen and will have plenty of wonderful memories when I'm old and grey sitting in my rocking chair, thanks to them!

They don't equal each other, but they have strong links. Like living in a big house and earning lots of money are often linked (but not always).

You need to be quick, have a broad knowledge base, understand people well and stay current. I'd say that most people I find to be truly funny are quite intelligent. And only people of similar intelligence are going to be able to appreciate real humor.

Now people who just repeat one-liners and lame jokes, no.

considering that mentally=challenged people tend to lack a sense of humor, I'm going to go with "yes"

Sometimes. It depends on what kind of humor. Some humor is humor because it requires thought and it does require intelligence. Other humor is just humor because its just plain stupid, but thats what makes it funny. It all depends.
