Does dogs who live with other dogs act different?

I have been looking around the internet for an answer but cant seem to find anything, so ill ask on here. Are dogs less dependant on you for social interaction/play/attention when they have another dog in the house to play with instead? Does having two dogs mean that they will be more independant? I often ask my parents why they dont get another dog (since they love dogs so much), but they say its because they think that if they got another dog it would change their current dogs personality (her name is Millie) and make her less cuddly. They also think that if they had of got two dogs in the beginning, then Millie probably wouldnt have grown up with the personality she has now. Is this true?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

My boyfriend has three small inside dogs. They all have different personalities, but they're all lap dogs to a degree. If we're on the couch, the dogs are on us. Especially the frenchbo. He's the neediest, clingiest little fucker I've ever seen. He has to be touching us or one of the other dogs amost constantly.

Only difference I see between them and my dog, who was an only dog, is that they have company when the humans are out. Makes me sad for my baby, home all alone. Dogs are pack animals. Company has to be a good thing.

My older dog became more desperate for my attention when I brought a new puppy into the household. I try to give them equal affection, and also let them have alone time with me every now and then so they can feel that they matter just as much as the other dog.

I thought getting another dog would get my first dog a buddy to play with. Now on have 2 velcro dogs.

if you get more than one dog you have to watch out for pack mentality. if one dog starts misbehaving the other dogs will learn and copy the dog and start misbehaving too if you don't correct it early on

I think it depends on the dogs. Certain dog breeds like the run around in packs, and others are more independent.

I prefer to have a dog, and a cat together! I prefer for the cat to be the senior animal, and boss the dog around.

With more than one dog, there will actually be competition among them for your attention, but ofcourse, if the dog has a partner to play with, they can get distracted from time to time playing and they will be happier for it.

No. Dogs will beg for loyalty and attention. It doesn't matter if other dogs are around.

Yes, it appears you are correct. I have two female dogs who are extremely independent and rebellious, and they don't follow any orders.
