Does being neutrual make you untrustworthy?

I noticed something. People cant ever figure out what side I am on. If its politics, religion, and just general opinion on things. Does that make people trust you less when they cant tell what side your on? Since most people just assume that Im not on their side if they cant figure it out.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by trust. Do they not trust that you will act in a certain way, or do they feel that you are not honest/genuine?

I think someone saying 'I just don't know' makes them seem more honest. If someone is being one-sided in their arguments, that generally makes them less trustworthy.

Being biased can cause you to deviate from the truth in order to adhere to community or personal opinion.

It honestly depends. If someone was looking for an unbiased opinion, a neutral individual is the first person he/she'd go looking for.

    I think it's a case-by-case thing.

How do you present your argument? Being informed on a subject and being able to present both sides with compassion will make you sound like a reasonable person. Or, you may sound like the devil's advocate. I think this would depend on how the person you are talking to feels about the issue and any projections they place on you for having an opposing thought.

    • I usually see both sides of the argument but this makes people think Im against them. Like atheists assume im christian and Christians assume im atheist and try to tell me why god is real. Both sides are very annoying and I really don't care what people believe long as they are not bothering me about it.

I don't think this is necessarily true of every issue. The whole theological debate is often a very passionate one and can't really be compared to a debate on something like economics, gun control, or even sports.

        • So why is it necessary to care about sports? Please explain to me why this is the most important thing on this planet? You know the world would survive even if sports did not exists. Its not like irrigation. That is like saying the world would not survive without tv.

Why are you jumping to such a radical conclusion? Where's that neutrality you were boasting about?

Did I say that sports were the most important thing on the planet? I'm pretty sure I didn't.

            • So why are sports important? Why do people need to have a side in sports? Gun control determines if citizens have the right to bare firearms. Economics has to do with money. So why do you hold sports in such high reguards up with taxes and gun control? I really do not understand that.

I would be more concerned that I was coming off as uninformed.

    • How does not caring strongly either way seem uninformed?

If you don't care then you don't have an opinion on a particular subject, right? When I don't have much of an opinion on something it's usually because I am lacking sufficient information on the matter.

        • You can know about a subject and not be totally into it. You can know algebra but it doesn't make you a mathematician. It just means you got an education. Its not saying you absolutely love math either.

You can't exactly be neutral when it comes to math and algebra... unless you are talking about whether you like or dislike math/algebra. Even so, I think it's important, and that with enough information you should be able to decide whether you are for or against a particular idea, subject, regulation etc.

            • You can know math it does not mean you care about it. You can know a subject and not feel very strongly towards it. Also some people just do not care some things are really not important. Some people don't care if god exists, if people are gay or not, or if someone has a different religion. Why does that make you uninformed? Does not caring if someone is gay make you gay? So all straight people must hate gays?
