Does beauty equal happiness?

I plan on getting plastic surgery when I get older and have the money. My nose is too big, my eyes are weird, I hate my smile and my fingers are too bony.

I'm doing this because I'm led to the logical conclusion that beauty is happiness. The more beauty you have, the happier you die, and the less beauty you have, the less happier you die. It's only logical, so I observe.

  • People chase fame, riches, and power never realizing that they're mistaking the symptoms of happiness for the cause of it.

It's possible to be hideous and satisfied with life and also have the appearance of good looks but be miserable.

i get told I'm beautiful all the time and 90% of the time I'm so unhappy. people think because you have a pretty face and a nice body they can use you and you'll just bounce back. i have also dated a model and she was a selfish bitch... I'm not happy with being pretty, well people say I'm pretty but it's hard to see it. certain things on me annoy me but that's what makes me, me!

  • Depends. If you're looking for an attractive partner, people to give you more positivity, then yes, good looks matter.

This doesn't mean being attractive means you'll be happy, because if you have problems that don't involve appearance, then obviously a new face won't fix the problems.

I don't understand the logic of it. I know some stunningly beautiful people who have felt suicidal.

No, you won't be happier. Happiness comes from within, not from outward appearance. I know someone who is told she is beautiful and yet she never believes it as she is never satisfied by her appearance and is quite a depressed person.

Um, to an extent. With some people it does. Your appearance affects the way people treat you, which affects you quite a lot. I think a lot of people assume that once they get plastic surgery, they won't have anymore problems and they'll be happy, which isn't always the case.

There are so many other things which contribute to happiness, but I guess when you compare the lifestyle of two extremes (extremely ugly and extremely beautiful), generally speaking it's obvious that appearance has an effect. Although, that's looking at extremes.

Beauty can give you an edge in some areas of life, and plastic surgery is a personal decision; however, I don't think there's a direct correlation between attractiveness and happiness.

I am very good looking and happy. If I was ugly, I wouldn't see the point in living.

personaly I thing pepole look best natural
beaty can make things much easyer but its not proportionate to how much people like you or your happiness.
we all whant to improve uor selves and I don't think there's a single person in the world who is 100% happy with them selves. for example im quite self conscios of my nose.
if you think PS will help thats fine but don't over do it.

But in that case, didn't beauty and immortality make him happy? It's just that it became his undoing, wasn't it?

Well, yeah, that's true. I was just thinking about the beginning when Lord Henry tells him all that stuff about how he should cherish his beauty and youth and how it will all go away one day.

Yeah take plastic surgery and if it fails, you will end up looking like a monster.

An interesting question for a change.

Some people say, beauty doesn't have to do anything with happiness. Imo, they are wrong. But it's not right to say that beauty _equals_ happiness either.

I think, it is somewhat easier to be happy, when you are beautiful. Not to a very large extent, but I see how "being happy" would be hard for someone, who considers him/herself an ugly person.
