Does anyone have solutions for separation anxiety in my dog?

I've tried leaving him for 30 seconds,10 times at a time, 3x a day increasing over a 6 week period. He has regressed from our progress. He had started hurting himself in his crate so am no longer using it. He also scratches at the door and bites as the trimming to get out so I am re-starting training in the backyard so he cant hurt himself. Does anyone have any other solutions? Cannot afford to get another dog.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Have you tried getting a rabbit?

I've had a rabbit in the past. Why do you ask?

I have a magic word I use for my dog. It has to be uncommon so you don't accidentally use it and confuse the poor thing. Hers is Stargazer. I say it to her when I leave, then again when I come back. Start with short intervals, then slowly increase the length of separation. I started with things like taking out the trash or grabbing the mail. I also use a crate for times when I am out for several hours. She feels safe in there. Good luck!
