Does anyone get offended by these words?

okay. well you know how people say "that's so gay!" or "you're so gay!" or "you're retarded!" or "that's retarded!" ? I think that's uneducated. how can you be 'gay' if you do something that was stupid? how can a nonliving object be gay when thy don't know what to think of the male race and the female race? how can something/someone be gay if it's bad, cause the last time I've heard, gay has two definitions: homosexual; happy. how can you be 'retarded' if you mess up a smidge? how can something be retarded if it doesn't even have a brain/head in the first place? does anybody else find these words to be offensive?

    I don't get offended. Sad to say I'm gay and I use it a LOT. I think for me, it's synonymous with something abnormal.

    I'm not saying us gays are abnormal *preens*. But I'd rather be abnormal than normal nowadays. Umm, though if I'm typing it, I usually spell it 'ghey.' =P

    I always call things gay.
    Gay didn't used to mean homosexual, right? So why does it have to KEEP that meaning? It doesn't.

    People just use these phrases as expressions. It's common. Just like labels. I believe labels and groupings are absurd, but people love placing themselves into them.

    You'll just have to learn to deal with it until they fade, if they ever do.

    yes! i hate it when people use those words! i used to be 'that person' who would get mad at the person who said the word and try to correct him/her, but s/he always just end up calling me a prick or something. why does my generation have to be so ignorant?!

      why get mad at all, seems like a pointless thing to get worked up over... why not choose your battles and get mad at someone who's actually doing harm instead?

      i'm bisexual and use 'gay' as a synonym for annoying or silly but it has its own meaning too.

    Nope, nothing offensive. I worked with some gay guys and they are the first ones to bash shit and call it "gay", so i don't think anyone should be offended by this.

    gay doesn't just mean homosexual. it also means happy. and most people say it meaning stupid or corny. so it has multiple meanings...

    I think it's simply slang... Like saying dumb or stupid or lame. In the old days, all three of those words meant "retarded" but have since been more or less integrated into our language. It's supposed to be offensive, it means you're stupid but I wouldn't say it's an attack on homosexuals.

    They're too common for them to be offensive, in middle school they where fighting words, now I use them among my friends. Not because I actually believe my friend sitting a little too close to me makes him gay but because I've picked up their speaking traits.
