Does anyone else worry about expired foods?

I'm terrified of throwing up. So I always check the experation dates on food to make sure its good so that I don't get food poisoning, even at friends houses, itsirritating..its kind of OCD but idk. If I don't look at it..I worry and worry..

Have you ever had food poisoning from expired food?

The expiration date does not mean the food is expired. It only means a store cannot legally sell it to you. Learn what bad food looks and smells like and you'll be okay.

With the amount of preservatives put in many foods, you don't have to worry about it going bad. So the bag of unopened chips that is a month past it's date will not make you vomit.

some foods you can use long after the best-before or use-by date such as *unopened* most packaged/tinned food. you could also also eat McDonalds LONGGG after the purchase date.

I've also eaten a bunch of weird old food and not barfed. For example, I drank a cup of very bad tasting orange juice, to find out it was 6 months old. And I found a bag of chips in my closet (2 years) and devoured them and nothing happened. Strange...

I used to be TERRIFYED of throwing up. To the point where I wouldn't want to set foot outside the house and get some stomach disease. But then I just accepted that I had Emetophobia and I accepted that vomiting was just a part if life, and noone could stop it. I haven't thrown up in 7 years, I'm proud of it.

The other day I bought some Pita bread that said to use it by one week from that day. I took it home and at some that night and it had dark green moldy spots on it. I barfed and now pita bread is ruined for me.

I agree with howamInotmyself. Expiration dates are there to protect supermarkets from legal action as much as anything else. Food is often fresh long after the sell-by or expiration. Particularly tinned food. I've eaten tinned food that is years past its expiration date and had no ill effects. You have to use a bit of common sense, though, as this doesn't apply to most dairy produce.

And it still amazes me that bottled water has a sell by date. It's water!

The only time I worry about getting bad food is at certain people's houses or at a restaurant. I don't trust many people to make food ever since I saw certain people's refrigerators and confirmed a story about someone who enjoyed doing gross things to food and watching people eat it.

There's websites you can go to for info on sell-by and use-by dates, it would probably make you feel a lot better!!
