Does anyone else think it's irritating when people turning left at a signaled intersection barely pull out into the intersection when they wait?

It's annoying because there's enough room for 3 cars to wait 24
I am one of those people who want to be the only one to make the light 6
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I don't know what your traffic laws are like, but it sounds fairly dangerous to me to just sit in the middle of an intersection. I don't want to get ploughed down by some random motherfucker. NO RUSH BITCH!

It is legal to wait in the intersection on a green light in Phoenix, AZ. In most cases of major intersections, they are wide 6-lane roadways. So, there's plenty of room for a few cars to pull out from the crosswalk and wait. Also, they have the right to clear the intersection quickly once the light changes to red. But, ideally on yellow of course. If everyone waiting doesn't have their head up their ass, then the clearing of the intersection happens in like 2 seconds. It works just fine here.

I feel the opposite. I get annoyed when cars piggyback the turning cars in front of them after the light turns red. Be patient asshole.
Edit: your poll options suck. There's no answer for reasonable people to select.

    • Be reasonable and prudent, slow poke Sunday morning driver. If we all had ome sense of urgency, perhaps we could have less traffic. Unreasonability is relative.

In my country, it's illegal for more than one car to stand in the intersection, but most people do it anyway. (whether as a courtesy to other drivers, or just out of habit of getting as far forward as possible, I have no idea.)

The intersections are even designed to accommodate more than one car, and the law is never enforced, but stop in the intersection behind another car on your licence test, and you will fail.

It depends on the jurisdiction in which you live.

In some jurisdictions, it is encouraged to 'take control of the intersection', in others, this behaviour is discouraged through placement of traffic signals.

It sounds to me, that you live in a place like Ontario, Canada. What they need to do there, is to change the quarter-circular guidelines to be straighter adjacent to the centre islands.

Still, left-hand turns (in right lane driving countries) at busy intersections, are very potentially dangerous situations.

In Michigan, they have eliminated many of these on busy thoroughfares, through Michigan U-Turns. Roundabouts are also becoming more common. These are much safer.

    • Roundabouts suck. You have to go slow in them, and no one lets you in because they know you have to yield to them. Good info though!

        i've seen many's of times they don't
yield they still have to yield too.

Yes, I believe some of those intersections are designed for population control, especially consistently busy intersections with no turn signal.

Well here's my take on it.

My father always said to do so. We live in Florida were most people are asshats when they drive. So when at a light with no left arrow, he always told me to get into the intersection so that the people on the street across didn't "assume" they had the right away and took your "turn" and then therefore made you wait longer.

But that's what I've always been told. If it's a left arrow intersection then I just wait like anyone else.

    • of course you wait if there's an arrow, big ticket. They meant if there's just a green light

Here it is illegal to enter an intersection unless it is clear but I share your frustration.

Well, unless there's a filter light, you shouldn't go into the intersection because if the light changes, you'll be holding up traffic in all directions

      • If waiting in the intersection, Traffic awaiting left turns after the light changes has the right o clear the intersection. It's legal. There's no hold up for more than a second.... Unless the person turning is a slow idiot

sure it is in many ways they could simply pull up some or just simply go threw the red light making a left turn and maybe snag a ticket or two.

I don't think I've ever seen that happen here... at least not enough to bother me. Shit, we got places to be.
