Does anyone else hear voices in their head before you fall asleep?

I experience this all the time. Random words chucked together in my head... when it happens I know I am about to drift off.

This is completely normal and natural. Look up hypnagogia.

ah, i get this all the time. it's a totally normal psychological thing, most people just don't notice it or reach a point when they're falling asleep that they hear it. it's like a pre-dream. your brain is shutting down while you're still concious to go into sleep mode and sorting out your thoughts from the day. or.. that's the best way i can explain, lmao.

Hahah that happens to me too!! The voices come as I'm falling asleep.. And I won't process them until I actually focus on what I *just* heard. And the sentence can be quite entertaining and random LOL

Me too and I have to say that you probably should not worry about this. I know that for me at least, and probably you too, the stuff you hear makes some kind of metaphorical statement about things going on in your life and stuff. Also, these things you hear before you go to sleep are really just a part of you talking to yourself if that makes any sense. Don't stress about it. In fact, consider yourself lucky that you have this experience. You might even be able to have a good bit of control over it as I do. Also, you should try lucid dreaming, it should be very easy for you. Simply roll your "dream body" out of yourself. It's tough to explain how to do this exactly but basically try to roll the other you out of yourself and then just begin dreaming and start talking to your dream characters, thinking about your life, etc., and get really great ideas about stuff to remember in the morning.

I always go to sleep with a movie on or something, so I'm not really sure I understand but I do hear stuff similar to that when It's quiet and I'm alone. I think it's normal but I honestly don't know for sure. Ha

I was about to fall asleep, face down in the snow once. But then I heard the voice of an old friend. He was all "You will go to the Dagobah system. There you will learn from Yoda, the Jedi Master who instructed me."

Well, that's when I finally dozed off. Next thing I know, I wake up in a tent, covered in Tauntaun guts and Harrison Ford is there with me.

Hypnagogia is the period of time just before you fall asleep and just before you wake up. It's extremely common (we're talking 99%) to hear and think of disconnected thought fragments, images and sounds, especially bits of things we've experienced during our day. This is completely normal.

i somtimes too not only do i hear voices and i can,t makeout what their saying, but i will hear soft music too,thought i was carazy, but i am normal, have been all my life,and i am 50ys, my son 16 work me up last night scared because he hears people and music too. i think its are spirit guides, but it is bothersome when you really just want to fall asleep.

Lol don't go to the doctor to get an MRI scan. Schizophrenia is definitely a lot different. And, on that note, even people who occasionally hear voices during the day are sometimes not schizo! It is hypnagogia ^ and it can depend on what you eat. About a week ago, I had a really bad one. I woke up and my body was completely numb. I had trouble differentiating whether I was dreaming or awake. And I heard weird piano music in my room =/ UGH.. still creeps me out. So I think you haven't experienced the worst of it. lol.

Really? I only try when I'm falling asleep, but I can make this happen to myself; control how many voices I hear, which ones, sometimes the theme of things said, ect. I suggest playing around with it. It's actually quite entertaining.

I think this happens because with it being late at night and in bed, there are a few factors in play.

You have no sensory input, it is probably quiet and pitch black, you are lying still in bed... so your brain has a lot of "RAM" available to play around with memories.

If you think this is an issue, I would recommend listening to the radio while you sleep. But other than that, I do not think you are abnormal.

This happens to me, as well. It's when I'm in the border state between being awake and asleep. If I move or open my eyes, I wake a little further and the voice/sounds stop. I like it, because it lets me know I'm definitely on my way out.

I believe there's a technical term for it, if you did a google search it would probably have some sort of wikipedia link to it.

When in doubt, go see your doctor. The best way to confirm that you're not schizo is to have a CT scan or an MRI, because it shows up in a pattern on a very distinct part of your brain. Of course, there are other factors in the diagnosis of the disorder, so you probably are quite normal, I'm just suggesting that if you're still worried, go see a doctor and get it checked out to satisfy yourself and put your mind at ease.
