Do you have general tiredness between these episodes? Do you struggle to get out of bed and have no energy to complete every day tasks?

I would consider looking at ME as a possibility, although diagnosis on this is still controversial for many people.

Sounds like an auto-immune disease. You immune system is attacking you. Through out your life when you did get sick(like the flu) did you get over it quickly? Any pain in your joints? Next time you get cold get a thermometer and see if your core body temp is under 95 (35 C)

Whenever doctors are baffled it's normally "Damn this wasn't in your medical history, now have to ACTUALLY diagnose it" My family's got a pretty weak medical history (immigrants), when ever something goes wrong it takes forever to get diagnosed. There are a lot of diseases out there folks.

Sounds like KLEIN-LEVIN syndrome. Usually precipitated by a virus.Flu or cold. Person sleeps for days and in between they have a fierce appetite. Will eat a lot at one sitting and then go back to sleep. Disorder is episodic. Comes and go's. See a Neurologist....Put you on a stimulant. Ritalin or adderall, amphetamine. I'm a nurse and have seen this. Wikipedia it.

Could be KLEIN-LEVIN SYNDROME. (see above comment) Rare so a lot of Dr's never heard of it except Neurologist. Person sleeps for long periods of time..Hours, days. When person awakens they are so hungry then back to bed. Precipitated by a virus..Flu, cold. episodic. Usually young adults. I'm a nurse and it's a fascinating illness. Persons mood has many alterations. Very hard to wake up. Treated with small dose of Ritalin or Adderall. Person usually grows out of it. Talk to your Doc about it. Wikipedia it.

I would get a second opinion. It sounds like your body is exhausting itself while trying to regulate its body temperature. This can be related to your thyroid, a vitamin D deficiency, fibromyalgia, and probably many other sources as well.

Evaluate your diet. Maybe it's your body's way of telling you not to eat gluten. Or maybe you don't tolerate some proteins. Or maybe you need to eat more fat.

I often have a hard time keeping warm, but nothing to your extreme. I find hot tea with spicy herbs like ginger or cinnamon help stimulate me. I am not an expert but you should find a health practioner who can give you a different perspective. Good luck.

      • Seriously my friend has low blood pressure and the same symptoms. Though I have similar symptoms sometimes when I have a panic attack. I shake for ages and have hot and cold flushes.

You can sort most problems out by having a good healthy diet, i used to get tonsilitus every couple of months and always had colds and stuff, few years ago i changed my diet for the better, started exercising correctly and now its rare that im ever ill.
