Doctor who or star trek?

It's a much-debated topic. I'm more of a Doctor Who person.

Star Trek is epic, and the Final Frontier, and sci-fi defined.

But Doctor Who is emotional, and mad, and crazy, and it makes you love the characters and cry when they leave.

Star Trek is a team in a spaceship, but the Doctor is a madman with a box. What do you think?

I loved Doctor Who until it became international. Now I'm a bit ashamed of it because of what it says about the British. It plays up to stereotypes. Having said that, when it's good, it's really good. I tend to like the emotional ones the best. Rose Tyler at Bad Wolf Bay, Martha Jones walking the world, Amy Pond as The Girl Who Waited and Rose Tyler again, finally meeting her dad before the car crash. Oh, and David Tennant's final episode. Because it's been running so long, it's also an interesting cultural commentary. The first doctor was an old man and they've become progressively younger (like politicians). It can't be long until we have an 11 year old doctor.

I think Star Trek edges it for me, though. Some of them were so beautifully written, especially TNG. I like the sciencey ones, the ones with a moral dilemma, and the funny ones (rare Worf humour is always good, and anything with Q in it amused me). I especially like how Patrick Stewart used his real accent and genuinely sounded English as opposed to some "Cor blimey, my old man's a dustman" Victorian music hall thing that British people seem to put on when they appear on American TV.

The forgetful aliens in the Amy Pond saga scared the bejesus out of me. Possibly because I always watched it at 2am before falling asleep.

I'm basically in full agreement with you. Although I have watched Enterprise recently and think it edges out TNG. And I've been a hardcore TNG fan for 18 years. Q always makes episodes more interesting. Even for Voyager and DS9.

I'm weird with Star Trek. That myth with the even-numbered films being great? I think it applies to the series too. I actually didn't like original Star Trek (blasphemy, I know), most certainly didn't like DS9, and didn't give Enterprise much of a chance (if I'm being honest). Maybe I should give Enterprise another look.

Voyager almost seemed like a continuation of TNG to me. Strong, occasionally-flawed captain, social and well-liked number one, a non-organic member of crew (Data, the EMH; very similar storylines about developing human characteristics and wanting to experience love), a part-Klingon member of crew (Worf/Torres), a deliberately annoying character (Wesley/Neelix), and a crew member who joined via non-conventional means (Yar, Seven).

Doctor Who. Rose Tyler ace. River Song brilliant. Doctor who can sometimes reduce you to tears in a way that Star Trek never did. (The first of the new Star Trek films did make me cry).

    Or Karl Urban's Bones?

Doctor Who all the freaking way!!!! I'm so addicted to it!! I'm one of those crazy fans that will stare at a statue, not blinking, until it's out of view... If I have two shadows (due to two different lights) I'll hurry to get into the light, and sometimes will start saying "Hey, who turned out the lights?" If I have a moment that I feel like I've missed something, I'll assume that the Silence are near, telling me what to do.. I am full out CRAZY about Doctor Who!!! I've even bought myself a trench coat like David Tennant's Doctor ;D I'm trying to get a sonic screwdriver soon so I can go around trying to be the Doctor =D That'll be awesome.. and, that'll be the day my fiance thinks I've gone completely insane.. ;D

    DOCTOR WHO FTW!!!!

Why not both at the same time?

I recently found a comic book story that weaves the two together. It's got Matt Smith, Amy, Rory with the cast of TNG. And they've got a Borg and Cybermen alliance to fight off.

Star Trek TNG Doctor Who Assimilation 1 2012.

PM me if you want a link.

I used to try to tell myself as a kid to don't watch Dr Who because I was scared shitless of the Daleks but I couldn't stop watching it. I was terrified taking the trash out at night because the bin was shaped like the daleks.

I have never seen Doctor Who, and I have only seen the new star trek movie, nothing of the old stuff. The movie was pretty awesome though, so I guess i'll side with Star Trek.
