You've gotta be aware of what is going on in the world. i mean, how can you not? O.o
I see some of the news at work and get enough. Otherwise I get my news from online media including youtube and what my fb friends have shared. Televised news is a big joke. If you find the right online sources which aren't from conspiracy kooks.. then you will find coverage of issues that matter. You will know more than your television watching counterparts while spending less precious time.
I try to avoid mass media garbage whenever I can. I cannot vouch for the news broadcasts of other nations, but here in the USA, mass media are extremely influential at making the majority of the population feel powerless while at the same time keeping Democrats and Republicans divided and angry at one another, when in reality, there's a lot of common ground between your average Democrat and Republican.
Not often, too depressing, but I like to keep up with current events to an extent.
A lot of what's reported, makes me feel angry and helpless, though. That's why I limit it.
My favorite is the local news broadcast, it's so quirky and not all doom'n'gloom.
