Do you wash your hands every time you touch/pet your pet ?

I mean think about this...my cat goes in a litter box and digs through litter that has her pee and poop in there, cats are too fat and lazy to clean themselves!
Why would you want to risk getting any germs! Not only that, but you can give germs to your cat as well,as with all things in life , i prefer to wash my hands every time i touch , even poke my cat D:

Yes ,i do it all time ,better to be safe than sorry 119
Not every time, that's just clean freaks gone mad. 90
No ,why would i do that !? 77
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

If I washed my hands every time I petted one of my cats I'd probably develop excema. However the fuck you spell that. XD

I'm allergic to my cat, so I HAVE to. Burns like the first circle of hell if his fur get anywhere near my eyes.

I wash my hands before I'm about to put my hands in my eyes, mouth, nose, or ear or if I'm about to pop a pimple or something like that. Otherwise it doesn't really matter because I'll probably end up petting the cat not too long after. I'm usually conscious of when I need to wash my hands so it's not a big deal.

Sometimes I have been lazy and neglected to wash my hands before eating (would never be lazy and not do this if I were cooking btw) and I have been fine.

I don't get sick very often so I trust that my immune system is strong enough to deal with it every once and while.

I don't really think about it unless I'm going to do something with my hands.

"cats are too fat and lazy to clean themselves!"

seriously, you have a mutant or a problem.
My cats spend as much time sleeping during the day as they spend cleaning themselves...

This. All the cats I've had were obsessive about that shit, except maybe when they get really old or sick.

  • Only when I'm about to eat or I have to itch my eye/ put eye drops in my eye. It depends on the dog though. My dog barely sheds and she has a long coat. My dad's dog is a Beagle and that thing use to be so greasy I'd wash my hands after petting him. That's what they get for feeding it bacon grease all the time tahaha.

I wash my hands every time because otherwise my allergies will go cray cray, doesn't matter if it's a cat or a dog. Which is sad because I love petting those fluffy bastards. Screw allergies.

I'm the same, although mine are kind of mild. If I spend a lot of time petting a cat and then don't wash my hands, within about twenty minutes my face starts getting very prickly and itchy. It's never going to stop me, though. :)

If I washed my hands after petting my dog, I'd have to carry water and soap every where I went with my dog. I've never caught any illnesses from petting my dog, nor has my dog caught anything from me. People in this country have become overly germ phobic, to a ridiculous level. All it does is create obsessions over something that is impossible to avoid. Hospitals, touching things like money, door nobs, phones, almost anything someone or animal has touched before you. There's nothing wrong with washing your hands, taking a shower or cleaning yourself off after going to the gym. All I'm saying is everything in moderation. Even soap and water can have germs on them, so good luck trying to be obsessive about it.

With my dogs not my other animals.

  • Especially dogs. They're filthy animals. I will never own a dog.

In fact, when I know a person owns a dog, I automatically downgrade them, in my mind, to a dirty person. True story.

Your an idiot. I definitely down grade people like you for saying stupid thing like that.
Dogs are no more filthy than any other animal including people.

I wash my hands too many times during the day already even without a pet. I can't even imagine how I'd be if I was a pet owner.
