Do you want a large house or a small house?

My definition of large is more than 1800 sq ft/185 sq mt or more than four bedrooms.

My definition of small is under 1200 sq ft/111 sq mt.

I want something small. That way it's easier to pay off, has less room to accumulate junk, and it's cute. And by small I mean.. 117 sq ft. They're called tiny houses and you can build them on flat trailers and park them around the country. The legality is sketchy though... /cough
I would upgrade if I ever had children, of course.

Large 31
Small 28

I'm in a one bedder apartment. The bedroom is tiny, the lounge is reasonable, the kitchen/meals also reasonable, the bathroom quite big. All up, it's probably 6x7metres? I'm not going to measure hah. What's that...450ish square feet?

At this point in my life, I'd like something a little bigger. Maybe a bigger lounge room - everythings so cramped. A bit bigger kitchen. Definitely a bigger bedroom, and two of them :P soooo....800ish square feet? I have no idea, I'm just putting in a guess. I'm shit with stuff like this. Fairly confident under 1000square feet would be ok with me.

With a courtyard. My balcony's small and blah. If I'm lucky enough to get my damn washing out at all, the rack takes up the whole damn balcony.

And if I'm pushing it, a study nook for my desk :P

Now if I had a family, that would be totally different. I wouldn't want anything huge, but I'd like my kids to have their own bedrooms, maybe a spare room as well, and I'd want two living areas rather than one. I kinda like the eat in kitchen, never had that growing up. And I'd want a yard. And a dog.

  • A house is only as grand as its occupants. I'd much rather live in a shack with those I love than in a mansion with those I hate.

That said, I'd take a wood cabin situated on top of a hill overlooking town.

Did you hear about the 1 sq meter house by Van Bo Le-Mentzal?

I think I heard there was one in London you could rent for around $1 per night.

Never heard of one in London but there are sleeping tubes you can rent as hotel rooms in Tokyo. They are about the size of an MRI scanner.

Whoa. I feel claustrophobic just thinking about that :-S

Yeah, I don't think I could cope with it either. You can't sit up and you can't move your arms too far from the sides of your body. :/

I prefer small houses. They are comfy and cozy. But I'm starting to hate houses. I think I'm going to run away to the woods and have the treehouse I always wanted but since I hate houses now, it will just be a tree. Anyone want to come? Lets go. Bring blankets and marshmallows. I'm outta here man

I'll definitely come. It's something I've always wanted to do anyway, but it'll be even nicer with company.

I'll start swimming that way. I'm done with this place.

We don't have much left in the way of woods but there's probably enough left for a little tree house. I'll start building. :)

117 square feet is small even by English standards. Growing up, my sister's bedroom alone was 48 square feet. And the kitchen must have been 70, so that's the whole allowance used up already. Even in a cramped country, what you're suggesting sounds small. Although there's a house in Wales that is ten feet by six feet.

I feel a bit guilty now. I do roam around alone in a lot of space. Although I do pay a lot to do that.

    • I know how small it is. Tiny houses are more of a novelty for just a few years of living. You can always park it in the backyard as an extra room/shed later. That's what I plan to do if I get around to building it.

The way things are going, it might not be a novelty for future generations. :/
