Do you think tv is a waste of time?
Just wondering...I've always found watching tv quite depressing, but i guess it is nice to blob out once and a while. What do you think? Are we wasting our time?

Television can be an important learning medium, if people use it in this way.
Unfortunately, most of the programming on television, at present, is idiocy.
No. I personally consider TV shows as much as a form of expression as films. There are really good shows out there. Also, you can learn a lot from certain shows, like Documentaries, etc. I suppose it might be a bit hard to filter out the crap and find shows which make you better just by watching them, but they do exist.
Look at The Sims all they do is sit on the couch and watch TV unless you tell them to do somthing.
For the most part, yes. People just have to be more discerning of the media, there is alot of biased journalism and propaganda out there. Tv shows etc well there are alot of bad ones, but thats subject to individual taste.
Personally I like documentaries. I'm quite happy to sit in front of the box and watch a documentary.
I hate TV but I love TV shows. When I try to watch TV there is always some retarded celebrity speak or stupid TV show I don't like but when I find good TV show on the internet and watch it online because they don't stream it here I can marathon it quickly.
Lots of things could be considered a waste. Like bananaface said it is a form of expression. I think television isn't bad, it's just that some people have their lives devoted to just sitting in front of the tv, but that goes for games, music, and smoking. It really just depends on the person, not the medium.
I learned this trick from Dom180.
Since we both don't have Gold, this is another way to privately chat. The OP is probably long gone. Anyways, in case you didn't want to publicly share what's on your mind in that other post (cliques and users) you can just tell me here. I'll listen all the way and offer whatever advise I can, but for the most part I want to be here so that you know that someone does care about you. Even if that person is someone you've never met.
Thank man, you know you've always been one of the users that I've liked and respected since I first used this site, you've always got brilliant advice and you're a great guy.
As for what's wrong, I'm not even sure I can answer that myself, I just haven't been motivated to do anything recently, inside IIN or out,
Ive gained a lot of confidence this year but sometimes I revert back to the guy who is nearly crippled with insecurity about what others think, which will in a few weeks go back to my now normal attitude of not really caring, guess I'm just in a funk recently, it'll pass it always does :)
I think I know how you feel, like some days you'll feel really good about yourself then other days you just don't want to face the world. I think a lot of people feel that way actually. But it seems like you have it under control. As for the whole motivation thing, I guess that's just a confidence thing. From what I've seen of you it seems like you're very much so capable of taking on whatever challenge is flung your way or whatever challenge you choose to give yourself.
However, just as a reassurance, you are an amazing person, you're funny, nice, and generally to most on here you're easy to get along with. You shouldn't be so worried about what people think of you because chances are that it's going to be something positive.
As long as you don't watch it religiously you'll be alright. And don't watch any of those Jersey Shore morons either. That is bad for your health.
Mostly. I often watch science stuff. Discovery Channel. Nat. Geographic. Viasat History. But even those got clogged up with reality bullshit! Stuff about loggers, oil-rig workers and truck drivers. How is that science? How is a man, covered in crude oil, smiling at the camera and exclaiming "We got the gold!" science?! It's not. Tell us about how the oil rig was made. Tell us how trucks are so durable. Tell us something of actual importance. Like the shows for space. I loved those. There was one. A simulated journey to a planet with life. That was a brilliant thing.
And the rest of the channels are full with mindless crap, shitty new movies about zombies, vampires, vampire romances and other nonsense. And those singing/ talent shows. I loathe them! They are the worst! Most of the people that go there don't even know what singing is! And the people who judge them are even more retarded. They vote off the person that can actually sing, in favor of the one that probably sucked off the judges or something...
The news is sugarcoated and also full of crap. I mean, one time I watched a news segment (an actual news segment, not a show) about some Kim Kardashian that bought a Pagani Huayra. Why is this news?! Who cares about some rich girl's purchase. The Huayra is an amazing car, yes! But why tell us who has bought one!
I rarely watch tv. When I do, I just watch a good movie, or a good show on the science channels. Or better yet, I play my own collection of movies on the TV.
Not if you are watching science! or how things are made! or discovery channels.
TV is a medium. It can be used for good or for bad. Now, it's used mainly for amoral activities.
A girlfriend of mine watches every soap there is, one after another. I think she's nuts. She thinks the same about me cuz I spend a similar amount of time with headphones on, listening to music. Each day I look at the TV guide and make a note of any movies or documentaries I want to watch,, and only watch those things. If they're close together I might watch something in between like South Park repeats,, otherwise I'll turn it off. I never watch soaps or reality TV and the last series I watched was Life On Mars. I think most TV is dumbed-down junk but appreciate that not everyone wants their leisure time to be a mental exercise.
Most of it is. Stupid stereotypical sit-coms, pointless reality shows, and boring cop shows overloaded with sex and violence. CNN and PBS are the exceptions.
There's a few decent things on I guess. Its been a while since I've watched more than two or three hours a week so what do I know. Nut'n
