Do you think todays' music is awful compared to 80's and 90's music?

Idk, but god today's music is complete overrated crap compared to music during the 80's and 90's! Music today is so artificial and generic, and it seems like most artists out there are willing to make any songs out of anything! I just think today's music is legendarily embarrassing compared to music during the 80's and 90's. Anyone agree with me?

I think today's music sucks compared to 80's and 90's music too. 555
I think today's music and back then are equally good. 95
I think today's music is even better. 35

it depends on the genre. there is music that i prefer back in the day but there is also music that i absolutely love from today. but whatever you like.

There's good songs, there's bad songs, it's been like that ever since the beginning of the music industry. To be honest, you have to listen to ONE good song to realize that there are so many amazing songs and bands out there these days. Perhaps not amongst the pop culture, but they're out there, and it's foolish to excuse all songs of our generation because of people like Ke$ha or . . . whoever the heck else.

I voted for the second option. I was struggling between that one and the third one. Nothing compares to the classics, but sometimes I do feel that today's music is better.

One thing I find more annoying than what gets into the top 10 music charts is people who constantly moan about how shit modern music is, then harken back to the decade usually of their childhood (nostalgia) or one from which they've hand-picked the best and only the best few bands from and declare that EVERYTHING IS GETTING WORSE and that MUSIC HAS NO CREATIVITY ANYMORE.

Search harder you lazy bastard :D

There were plenty of crap bands in the 80's and 90's. You just forgot about them, or never knew they existed. Crap bands of today will be forgotten too, give it time.

I more like the 70's and 90's I don't really like the stuff from the 80's :/ and there are some bands and music now days that I like but no pop music what so ever. All of it sucks.

I cannot STAND music today. It just does not compare to anything before the Millennium.

I feel like music has lost its' passion and talent. For example, Katy Perry. She cannot sing a note live and her lyrics are just plain silly.

A lot of today's known music sucks, like the crap they play on the radio...but if you search for a good band, there are some out there that will blow your mind away.

Feels like people are losing their originality these days. Not to say that crap is the only thing ever being produced, but seems like it, huh? Me personally, I like the 80's music way better-feels like they put more effort into it, rather than blend 20 something catchy songs that you know will bring in the cash...it's all about heart, I suppose. ^.^

No brainer, today's music SUCKS. No creativity, message, nothing. I mean, of course there are a few bands who still have it, but they started in the 80s or 90s and are still going. There was crappy music in the 80s and 90s too, but in general, music was so badass. It's a shame.

  • The 80's and 90's had as much bad music as today does, it's just that todays music is everywhere: the internet, TV shows, movies, videogames, etc.

I think the classics are just as good as today's music because there are a lot of good music out there beyond the crappy pop culture stuff. But I will say some of today's pop culture is pretty good like Eminem and Katy Perry because they are real and don't autotune. Also because they have real meaning in their songs instead of talking about how to do weed, like Lil Wayne or Drake or Kid Cudi. They have no real talent. But beyond most pop culture which is mainly pop and rap, you need to think about rock bands out there that are amazing! Take Linkin Park for example, my favorite musician/artist of all time. I love no other artist more than them. But it's because they have real meaning and yeah they use technology, but a lot of it is real. Yes I know they have a DJ but he's to distort the instruments and SOMETIMES the singers(Chester and Mike). But there's other great bands to like, Three Days Grace, Evansescence, Skillet Flyleaf, Disturbed, Bullet For My Valentine and so much more that I can not even name, because, despite most crap most musicians make today, they are in the underground making a real name for themselves without fucking up today's youth. They are extremely famous, talented, AND REAL. Now for the classics, I like a bit of it, but I don't love it as some do. I like AC/DC, Guns n' Roses, The Beatles, you know the bands who made an impact on music and made it to what we have today.(Not meaning they contributed to making rap.) I mean rock alone, without them rock wouldn't be the same. I'm meantioning rock bands and genres because it is what I know best, I'll admit there are other artists of different artists besides pop culture that are amazing talented, but I don't like it because I didn't grow up with it. So just try and find all the modern music people don't generally listen to and you will know then that it doesn't all suck. In reality most of it is pretty good because rap and pop are only two genres of the doznes out there, especially rock, there are so many types of rock. So just explore it all and I'm sure you will find something of today's music that you will enjoy listening to.

Also remember that the older you get, the less impressionable you become. This argument has been going on for YEARS. I remember people saying it was all about 60's 70's and how much the 80's sucked balls. So there ya go.

  • I agree music in those times had meaning all music today is about is sobby love stories, sex, drugs and violence. Besides back then you had to have an actual talent for music nowadays you dont due to technology.

You know what I especially hate that's popular these days? Those whiny, nasally singers who sound like someone has their junk in vise. Adam Levine, Muse, various and sundry boy bands.Though the BeeGees were from the 70s and they sounded like that...
Anyway, I hate guys who sound high pitched and whiny. Ill take Jim Morrison over that shit anytime.

well yeah i do agree, but then most of what we know are the ones on the mass media,it all just follows what the audience wants, what's recently popular. and then of course the technology influences music as well (imo), there are a lot of factors why music now is so different then back then. maybe Chopin would think the 80s and 90s music are crap who knows :). but if u look for good ones i'm quite sure there are some good ones out there. not all of em are crap.
for me personally, yes, the 80s and 90s are the best.but the search for good music will never end - i can't be without it :D

I didn't like 80's music in the 80's, but it may be because I was too young, and didn't get into music until 1988 with the discovery of Metal. I still think a lot of 80's music sucks, but since 2006, I've been really big on New Wave/Synthpop.

The 90's had a lot of sucky artists, but I primarily went for bands and singers that didn't get their dues. I was a huge fan of early 90's Hardcore and Gangsta Rap, and it's clearly better to the Rap of today.

The music of 2000's and 2010's only works for me when it's Punk, but I have a huge belief in local music, and have seen a bunch of small-timers who I think are thousands of times better than the music stupidstars (sic.) of today.

Older music sounded an awful lot more funky, that's for sure. Nowadays, I swear every song is about love, sex, parties and getting high. Has anyone heard about singing about LIFE? ._.

I love music from the 60's to the 90's. Also some of the music from the 30's. If you look in the right place there is some really really good stuff out there. You just have to look. Try the underground bands, that's always a safe bet. Most of them are unpolluted by todays mainstream noise.

Well I can give an opinion based on my own personal experience. I'm 51 and love tunes from different decades and almost every genre. While it is true that a lot of today's releases are just made of bits and pieces from previous tunes, there are tunes even now that I think are just as good as any decade. I agree with the point someone else made that due to newer technology almost anyone can produce and market whatever they want. So of course much more crap gets to be heard by more people.

It might have something to do with the difference in the amount of exposure we have to music. In the 80's and 90's, you really only heard music on the radio or MTV, you just didn't hear music that didn't "make the cut"- now we hear so much crap from so many sources other than mainstream outlets, so there's bound to be more crap.

Todays music and music from the 80's and 90's are too different to compare. It can't really be said as to which one is better than the other seeing as music choice is opinionated. But I believe that a lot more work went into creating music in the 80's and 90's than it does today.
