Do you think this is true or false?

The average blue whale produces over 400 gallons of sperm when it ejaculates, but only 10% of that actually makes it into his mate.

So 360 gallons are spilled into the ocean every time one unloads, and you wonder why the ocean is so salty...

Do you think this information is true, or false?

Chinese whispers. I heard the 400 gallon quote reported for a full mating season and - having done a little mental arithmetic - I can believe it's technically feasible. But someone's attention span was a little lacking and they simply forgot the words "full mating season" when they passed the information on.

This happens more often than you'd think. You'd be surprised how much you take for granted is actually completely false.

  • The Blue Whale sperm story is an urban legend. Not true at all.

But it does remind me of this fellow from Manchester....

Or put it this way-there are 362.2 QUINTILLION gallons of ocean water. A few hundred gallons of sperm here and there is nothing, that would be like putting a single grain of sugar into a few hundred gallons of water and expecting it to be sweet. Even if a man jerked off into a gallon of water and stirred it up real good, you probably wouldn't be able to detect it and that's a WHOLE lot higher than any possible whale sperm to ocean water ratio. Think a little, people!

Sperm tastes NOTHING like ocean water. Have you ever tasted either?? If you have, then you'd know the two don't compare in the least. Ocean water has evaporated (thus cleaning itself) several billions of times over time, so it's not like sperm would accumulate in the water over time anyway, it all goes through a natural biological process, it breaks down and comes back as another form, same with anything else on the earth.

I guarantee you there's more dead plant and animal matter in the ocean than sperm (imagine how many dead bloated bodies of all kinds are in the ocean!), so by that reasoning, the ocean should taste like rotting flesh....but it doesn't. Duh.

Girls, wear wetsuits in the ocean, you don't want to get pregnant. Ouch imagine the birth.

Yeah I believe it. In the grand scheme of things it's still just a drop in the ocean

Sperm has no salt in it, yet the sea does, so that is not the reason why the sea has salt in it.
