Do you think this counts as racist?

The question is, does it really count as being racist if you are equally racist to ALL races including your own?

Yes. Racist is racist. 58
No, since you have an equal opinion about all people. 62
Maybe, it depends... 14

That would just be misanthropy, not racism. It's racist to think that innate qualities of different racial groups implies evaluative differentiation between them. It's misanthropic to think that all humans are equally inadequate.

Unless you're talking about racist jokes or stereotypes.

I agree, and would add that a misanthrope does dislike humans as a species, not just merely "disliking all races." The misanthrope doesn't distinguish between races, but focuses on the flaws of the species as the basis for the dislike.

      That's what I'm thinking

  • Racism gets flung around too much today, just like any group that has been discriminated in the past. Some would even say you're racist for not liking being with black people in a rleationship. When in reality, it's just not the ideal person that others might not prefer, just like some might not like whites or asians for partners.

But that is racist - by definition. To believe that inherent racial traits merit qualitative judgment and that different races are thus necessarily unequal is, by definition, racism. So for one to say, "I don't like being with [race X] because they are ______" is racist.

      • That's one of my sidepoints. Racism now takes away what you would prefer and makes your choice seem like negativity. So now you have to be careful of what you like in a partner or you're a racist. If appearance counts as being unequal, then black, whites and Asians are unequal because they look different. I don't think appearance should be put in the equality role though.

Surely you of all people can see where I'm coming from?

Well, you didn't specify that you were talking about appearance. If you're not attracted to a particular skin tone or facial feature, that's one thing. But to say "I don't like being with black people in a relationship" implies that all black people share particular social qualities that you do not wish to associate with, and that is unequivocally racist.

          • No, no. What I meant was just skin tone and facial features.

Racism is all relative. Usually, actually in all cases, it's only the minorities who get offended when people say anything having to do with "race."

The only reason racism exists is because minorities encourage/instigate it. For example, if black people stopped beating up non-blacks for saying a six letter word, then there wouldn't be racism today.

Usually, if you have to ask if it's racist, it's probably racist.

If you characterize and give specific defaults to each races, you are racist.

No, that is just being an dick. You are also behaving that way to both men and women, but it doesn't make you sexist because you treat them both equally.
