Do you think this australian family was right or p&o cruises?

An Australian guy was on a P&O cruise with his family. He was smoking and flicked his cigarette butt overboard. A safety officer saw him do it and told him off.

The man apologised but was told by the safety officer to return to his room and was told that if he did there would be no further repercussions.

The next morning the family found out that their father had been removed from the cruise. He had a letter in his room ordering him to a meeting where the captain told him that he was going to be removed from the cruise at the next port. The guy was disembarked on an island and left to make his own way back to Australia from Bali.

The guy has cancer and cholesterol problems and his wife looks after his medication. However, I am not sure if P&O knew about this or not.

P&O said The issue of fire safety on board is of highest priority and said a lit cigarette can be sucked in by the ship and start a fire. When boarding the cruise all passengers were warned of this and told not to throw anything including cigarettes overboard.

Who do you think was in the right?

The Australian family was treated badly. 3
P&O did nothing wrong and the guy got what he deserved. 3

Embarking on a cruise comes with rules and conditions, you break those rules, they have every right to kick you off. If the safety officer told him nothing more would happen if he went back to his room, why was he kicked off? There must be more to the story. He should have told them about the meds and they would have sorted something out. Either removed the wife too, or kept him onboard with strict conditions.
