It was "overpopulated" a long time ago. Our planets overpopulation is by no means a recent problem. The lack of Space and resources are huge factors. Astronomers are already looking for habitual planets as well as Terraforming "uninhabited" planets. This such a thing as Superearths that are many times larger than our planet. With planets that large we most likely wouldn't have to worry about space for quite a while. Resources and climate are other factors that would have to be considered for any planet. What if the majority of a planet is a desert? What if one is mostly sea? What if this planet in Cygnus is has a higher toxicity level than Venus? There's also the subject of whether or not that said planet is already inhabited. So, many different negatives as well as positives could result! Just thinking of new forms of vegetation, minerals, cultures and so on makes me very excited:D
I think we could produce enough resources if we wanted to fairly redistribute them, so it isn't a case of over-population but a case of mismanagement of resources.
