Do you think that is it normal is an accurate website?

This website is called Is It Normal? so it's pretty much guarenteed that people on this website are people that are insecure about wether or not they're normal, and either they are normal, or they are some kind of weirdo or freak. There are trolls. And there are people that are on this website because they want to help the weirdos and freaks. So when a user asks Is It Normal? how will they ever know if what they're asking is actually normal?

Yes (I will explain why in a comment.) 3
No (I will explain why in a comment.) 4
Yes (Just because) 9
No (Just because) 7

Learning to judge whether someone is lying to you (even in print) is a useful life skill. In that sense, the trolls actually play a role here. Because they have varying levels of skill, this range of trolling acts almost as a set of lessons.

In the world of work, people are going to lie to you all the time and often by email, especially in an office environment when the economy is stretched and people are worried about their jobs. The better you see through it, the more successful you'll be.

To answer your question, though, anyone spending a little time on the site knows who can be trusted and who can't. If you're lucky enough, you may get an answer from someone who:

    (a) cares
    (b) is honest
    (c) understands your problem

I think sometimes it can be pretty accurate. I see a lot questions though where the voting results and comments seem to be one big circlejerk of people trying to convince each other and themselves that they're normal when society at large would beg to differ.

For the most part I don't consider this website filled with weirdos. What I normally see is insecurities. ALL websites have trolls, deal with it. The one's here aren't that bad. The people here are normally more thoughtful than anywhere else on the internet. But if you're bummed that the community isn't 100% ideal citizen then I'm sorry. But you're not going to find 100% ideal anything anywhere.

Of course some people are divided between what's normal and what's not, but that's why I find the comments a bit more valuable then the percent.

Sometimes I think it is quite accurate but at other times poll results just completely boggle me, like some polls concerning pets...I would laugh if it weren't for the fact that it is voted 60-70% normal :O

  • No website is free of trolls and peoples' abuse of anonymity. I just use IIN for entertainment purposes, not for factual advice.

It's hard to say but from my experience a lot of the users here are just trying to help each other out, and use this as a place to share common habits and interests. People shouldn't take this site too seriously, who cares if your normal or not? Whenever I've posted a poll it's because I was curious more than anything.

    Just sayin'.

My opinion, this site is nothing but a big "Shuck and Jive" set-up.

I sometimes find the website sexist, almost every time commenters take the side of the girl and not the guy, regardless of actual content. This doesn't actually happen all that often, but when I see it then it does annoy me when people fail to try and see both sides.

Personally, I always try and be honest on here, and I like to think that I often know something about the topic at hand, or I can make some reasonable deductions about it. I care about the people on here, most of the questions are posted by someone who genuinely needs guidence from a balenced and anonymous source. So I always try and be helpful.

Trolls are sometimes hilarious, and sometimes insensitive. I take the view that trolling a Pet Peeve is okay, but trolling someone with depression or something isn't funny, just stupid.

I've noticed the sexist thing too! Apparently this site thinks that if a woman has a partner with a fetish she hates then the man should respectfully stop. But if a man has a partner with a fetish he hates he should deal with it. Just one example of many. This site can be really tough on men, which is weird because the users here are mostly men.

I think most people on this site are genuinely trying to help others.
I often feel though that the first sentence of the paragraph on the home page, encourages / attracts @ssholes / trolls, unfortunately!

I find it hard to answer certain questions sometimes, because even though it does relate to me, it still is not considered "normal" by most people.

  • I don't give advice on to move on in a subject but I usually say why the person has the problem, I don't really care about the situations though.
