I don't think anybody is 'meant to be' one thing or another. Nothing is written in stone, nothing is pre-ordained.
I think some people don't fit comfortably into mainstream society; whether that be because of a difficult attitude, odd or disturbing behaviour, emotional and/or mental health problems, other disorders (e.g. autism)... Some people are square pegs.
These type of people can find it difficult to form and maintain relationships. Some don't want human companionship of any form (though they may benefit from it). But that's not to say they are 'meant' to be alone.
There are also plenty who seem utterly normal, but events have transpired against them and left them 'out in the cold without a hand to hold'. It's easy if you've been alone for a long time, without any obvious cause, to predict this will be the case forever - that perhaps it's meant to be that way. But that's a pessimistic attitude and premature. Again, destiny is make-believe, everything can change in an instant.
Goes back to tinkering with his death machines. Alone.

I don't think anyone is meant to be alone. I do believe there are those who choose to live life without a companion and others who talk themselves into believing they are meant to be alone. But alone by design? No, no way.
No, of course not. Nothing is "meant". Things happen and we make them happen. If it doesn't happen for you, you didn't make it happen.
Sure. Some people whether by choice or circumstance do not want or do not have a partner. I could easily live alone with no problem (mentally) as long as I was financially secure.
Obviously some people never find companionship, but nothing is meant to be.
Personally I do like certain people, but from a distance. I've never been good at being close to anyone or maintaining relationships. I sometimes feel something's missing, but when people are around I often just feel annoyed.
