I can't stand when someone tries to convince me that there are more POSITIVES to negatives. Both my parents nearly DIED from cancer/heart disease due to smoking. Smoke kills and they're trying to convince me that so does driving a car..

I wouldn't worry about smoking killing you, no matter what you do in this world, whether if you smoke; {cigarettes or pot}; eat high fat content foods, drive so on and so forth you have chances from croking from it. I do not worry about what is going to knock me off. I am still going to enjoy my three packs a day of cigarettes.
Personally I think politics should stay out of smoking.
If you dislike smoking then don't smoke, but leave the smokers alone.
Besides, if you kill off cigarettes you kill off
1) Taxes the government gets from them
2) Jobs associated with cigarettes
and do you really want MORE people unemployed and a bigger need for taxes?
do you think we should legalize things like heroin for the same reasons? (job creation, taxes). this is a serious question.

But if you think that harmful useless products should be manufactured because of jobs and the taxes that can be put on them, then why not legally manufacture, tax, and distribute heroin for the same reason?
In fact heroin has killed far far fewer people than cigarettes. Not even comparable numbers.

Certain political groups always talk about freedoms, promoting personal freedoms, freedom to do what you want to your own body... UNTIL you chose something they personally disagree with

Anyone with common sense hates cigs and would be in favor of them completely disappearing from earth. It's not political.
one more thing though. Cigarette smoking and the health care and cost DOES get passed on to everyone whether you or I like it or not.
On the other hand abortions CUT DOWN on the number of people on welfare because welfare babies get aborted.
So if you want to be economically prudent, you should support regulation/outlawing tobacco AND abortion at the same time. No contradiction involved.

i'm not advocating that heroin be legal you moron. I'm making a point about angel's argument concerning tobacco and the jobs created from making it. I'm applying what she is saying about tobacco to heroin.
Heroin is a bad substance. But you are also a retard by virtue of the fact that almost every thing you list there as being bad about heroin stems from it being illegal. Think about what you are saying. Or just think, period.

Smoking is terribly unhealthy, but nicotine does had some documented positive effects on the human body. The tar, carcinogens, and additives do not, however.

I am the dictionary definition of a stoner and i smoke everyday all day and love it but there is not one physical health benefit. I don't care what you pull-up from Wikipedia, putting smoke of any kind, into your lungs is not a healthy habbit.

I am intrigued to hear about these positive health benefits you've heard regarding smoking. I have only heard people say such things in the 50's (not that I was alive then but you get my drift).
As a smoker myself, it most certainly is not healthy, that i know! but i am too addicted to my habit and for now i enjoy it. Hoewever alot of thing's these day's are unhealthy not just smoking. If someone thinks smoking is healthy i'd have to laugh in their face
There are no health benefits. Some people enjoy the social aspect of smoking, and the relaxation it can bring.
PERSONALLY I think there are better things to do for both socializing and to relax, and they don't rape your lungs, but if people want to smoke that's totally cool with me. =P
I think the message that they're trying to put across is that smoking is a personal choice, not necessarily comparing smoking to driving a car. They're just pointing out that everyone makes their own choices, everyone takes some risks, knowing the potential downside.
Tobacco itself can be used in some beneficial ways. For example, nicotine is a very effective and organic insecticide.
I smoke and know perfectly well it's dangerous. There's nothing positive about it.
Those people are clearly idiots. There is no scientifically validated health benefit that could even come close to outweighing the negatives of smoking.
That isn't to say that driving a car isn't dangerous as well. If we all walked and got on our bikes instead of driving everywhere obesity would be a lot lower, and damage to the planet would be much less serious as well. If anything, smoking is less dangerous than driving a car, but they'll both kill you either way.
