Do you think pop culture is divided?

I'm constantly hearing that "nowadays all that matters is sex appeal no one's striving for intelligence." I don't believe that all. I believe that our pop culture is divided. Lets call it Raunch and Wit. Raunch Culture (sex appeal, uneducated, booty shaking) and Wit Culture (less concerned on appearance, intelligence, art.)

Raunch Culture.
Nowadays it is more acceptable for women to show skin. Respected female olympic athletes have even appeared in playboy. Even underage youth are displaying themselves in a sexual way. This is reflected by our media. Shows like Jersey Shore about irresponsible youth are getting too many viewers. People concentrate way too much on their physical appearance. The music industry is dominated by sex (Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, etc.) Teen pregnancy is becoming glamorized. Cosmetic surgery is now extremely common.

Wit Culture
Nowadays women are more likely to work their own wages. The term "pink collar job" is dying. Men and women are more comfortable in their own skin. We see wit in the media. Shows like Big Bang Theory or 30 Rock about professionals are very successful. People care more about their personal interests (hobbies, fandoms, whatever.) The music industry features non-sexualized artists (Adele cleaned up the grammies.) Grass eaters, people that avoid romance totally, are becoming more common. Comic con is bigger than ever.

I think our current culture is split between Raunch and Wit. And I don't think people should look at the Raunch and use it to define a generation. I also don't think a person in Wit culture should look at Raunch and feel superior because there are many people that aren't part of Raunch culture and it doesn't make you special. While many people see the current generation become more and more decadent it's also surprisingly progressive on the underbelly.

Yes it's divided 10

To be honest, I have to disagree. I would class myself as an intelligent, motivated woman. I go to law school and will do my best in my future career. I don't need a man to pay my way through life.
But then that doesn't mean I am not sexy. I love Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga etc. I love going out with little clothing, drinking and having a good time. Because lets face it, I won't be able to do this in another 10 years so may aswell get the most out of my youth. I even know an escort (higher class prostitute) who has an economics degree. Just because she works in the sex industry does not mean she is thick.
All in all, I show my skin, I class myself as sexy, I love getting attention and I spend a LOT of time and money on my appearance but I do act appropriately when I have to. I use my intelligent mind to work my ass off through law school and I wear the appropriate clothing to go along with that.
Why can't a woman be intelligent AND sexy?

I think people are talking about a subset of music, in particular the stuff that's on TV, the radio, and in the charts. There are many ways of describing the lyrics of the most popular songs in the charts but intelligent is not one of them. Payphone sounds like it's been written by a team of morons and Cheryl Fashionable-One-Name's song is just some words repeated ad nauseam. Then again, the charts have always been filled with dross.

You consider the Big Bang Theory wit? When it's full of sex jokes and the people are always sleeping together?

I would be both (in my mind), but I'm currently too fat to get away with looking sexy so I make do with feeling sexy on the inside every now and again and focusing on sex in Wit Culture e.g. La Roux, Lady Sovereign, the Millenium trilogy of books...

Sometimes I'm glad that pop culture eludes me.
