She had charisma, talent, charm, sexuality and was beautiful. Couple that with her famously unstable mental health and you've got tabloid/media gold. I find her fascinating because to me she embodies every feminine quality. Women are usually seen as either cute or sexy and she was both. They are either seen as innocent or bad girls and she was seen as an innocent bad girl. She somehow managed to embody all of these things and create this hypersexual character (her famous walk, her face, her body, her voice) that captivated and fascinated the world for generations to come but still let a bit of the broken little girl inside show through every once in a while which only added to her appeal. I don't think she was the sexiest or most beautiful movie star at the time (or ever) but she sure as hell was the most fascinating.
She was the inspiration behind playboy, and she was popular, but I think her sudden death was what made her into what she is today, like elvis, JFK, and John lennon.
To be honest, no. But I didn't live then. Maybe things were different. Maybe she was great to people then but not so much today. Same goes for George Walker Bush. Nobody today would vote for a chimpanzee.
Beauty standards change. That's a given. What most surprises me is that with all we've learned from medicine and social "science" about how unhealthy preoccupation with others' fame, wealth, beauty... is, we still spend time considering these things.
There were plenty of more attractive and classier women in Hollywood when Marilyn Monroe was around. Personally I do believe she was over hyped with an overly gratuitous media persona of being a sex icon. She was also very superficial and had many emotional issues. I find women like Audrey Hepburn more appealing.
First off I think that (radiatelove) probobly gave the best explanation for this. Second I picked option two. Yes she was a beautiful women but she was a slut. Not surprising as this is something most celeberties do. They are talented, pretty and becomes druggies, alcoholics and get laid by anyone paying enough. So what do you expect? Anyone on tv probobly isnt the greatest person. Unless we are talking about country singers as they seem to stay out of that and for this reason or not well known. Sex sells if we like it or not. That oops my boob fell out always brings attention. Another underated group would be Christian rock bands. Can you name a list of those? No you probobly cant. Since behaving doesn't sell and does not draw attention. Unless your audience is 3-12 year olds.
I think that she is a very beautiful lady but I honestly don't see what is so special about her compared to all the Hollywood beauties since gorgeous women in Hollywood are a dime a dozen.
Girl was gorgeous, and no matter what anyone says, she will always be iconic. Doesn't matter if not everyone has the same opinion.
I dont think she was all that.her acting was horrible and her movies suck.
No. I've had is conversation before too. She was super classy though, for being a slut and all.
She was pretty for the time. There was no photoshop and plastic surgery could not do what it can now. That being said, I think Jayne Mansfield was prettier.
