Do you think mankind is getting better or worse?

Some aspects better:
~More equal rights [not there yet though]
~Education [generally speaking humans are more literate now]
~Health Care [Overall health knowledge and care is better, longer life spans]

Not Changed:
~War, Death, Killing, Power [humans still have the desire for these]
~Religious fanatics are still killing in the name of their God

Worse:
~Quality of our Foods [more chemicals etc]
~Capitalism reeking havoc on the Planet worse than ever [Capitalism = everything worth $, therefore cut down trees, fish the last fish, extract every resource, basically sale everything]
Diseases are stronger and harder to kill
~Hope and the mindset for a bright future is fading Globally
~People are getting Fatter and less healthy [although the diseases are being maintained ie, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. all can be maintained]

I am shocked at how many people think we are getting worse... what a bunch of pessimists! We certainly aren't getting better in my opinion, but looking at what human beings used to do to each other, how could we get worse? A lot of posters have listed superficial things like technology, government systems, etc, to make the case that we are better or worse now than at some indefinite point in the past... I am unaware of how these things indicate the human condition, would someone please explain? Technology indicates wealth (so some people can sit around researching and inventing) and a stable government, so the entrepreneur can make money off his brain. And Capitalism? Wtf does that have to do with anything? It's a system, it isn't evil anymore than Communism is evil; what's evil is the people in the system, which is why Capitalism and dictatorships (the prime form of government throughout history) always get fucked up, and why Communism as Marx described it has never yet existed.

I can't believe so many people think the world has gotten worse. That's absurd. I'd like to see them go back in time where we lacked medical knowledge and people's limbs were sawed off due to infection with no anesthetics. And when people were routinely persecuted, tortured, and killed in the public eye for their beliefs. I could go on, but I just don't have the time to list all the horrible behaviors that were considered right and acceptible a long time ago. We have come a long way. I agree with the others that have said "pick up a history book." It'll do you some good.

Neither, people stay the same we just have different ways of communicating.

If the world should have a disaster, mankind will turn on each other. no survival skills, no grocery stores no morals--the so called educated will turn into disaster, not knowing what to do...only the strong will survive

Better, we take to many things for granted and sit on this woe is me trip hoping for perfection. Mankind has changed since the days of feeding people to lions as entertainment like the Romans so I guess we're doing much better in most areas of the world.

We've been blessed with crazy stuff such as the internet that will give you information on almost anything, a place you can go and get lost in the words of others. An apple orchard of information where you can go and pick whats good and whats bad and run with it.

Better much better to sending your messenger boy out with an important message and waiting months only for him to return with a message that says "LOL NO!"

Worse. Reason? Because being in school you are surrounded by many people who don't care. Everyone seems to just take thing for granted. No one ever thinks about other people. In school, a lot of people don't care. Teens get pregnant. Just go back to how high school is now. Everything has changed. It's also good because hey we have technology, but look at all we take for granted. Most kids in school can't add or subtract without using a calculator or fingers. Parents and adults aren't aware of really anything that happens as a young teen. The environment that everyone is surrounded by is horrible. Too many people care more about celebrities instead of caring about their own health, worrying about the world around them, and just caring about themselves. Everyone is becoming unhealthy now, not a lot of people try to stay healthy. War is always happening over stupid things because no one trusts each other. Crime happens because life just isn't fair. No one ever thinks about the consequences.... It's sad that we kill people who kill people to show the people that killing is bad. I wish everyone could just understand that things are getting soo bad. Not to mention that back in the 80s people trusted each other. Neighbors and other people were always nice to each other and trusted each other. No little children got raped. Society is bad. People should see that we are all alike. We all feel the same and go through the almost exact same things. No one is ever alone because no matter what someone is always going through the exact same thing as you.

Mankind has made improvements, but not enough of them for us to give ourselves a big pat on the back.

The improvements I personally like are:
- Computers & technology.
- Medical advances.
- Less religious people.
- Personal & community hygiene.
- Women's rights.

And the stuff that has me worried:
- War.
- Severe poverty.
- Too many religious zealots.
- Capitalism.
- Destroying the forests, rivers, & oceans for profit.
- Too many people - we need population control on a world-wide scale.
- Toxic, inhumane agriculture.

Better or worse for who?and by who's judgment?
Dumb morons. Ohhh you are into the whole "new world order" thing.Better world for everybody... worse world for everybody..

And you think that to make this "Perfect world" in which everybody can live happily ever after like in fairy tales, we must take some of that out,and take some of this out,and add some more of this,the world in your mind a goddamn bowl of stew.And it's becoming tasteless.

It has definitely gotten worse! People don't care for their fellow man anymore. I saw a video a while ago where a man was lying in the middle of the street and it took about 10-15 minutes for someone to come by and help him! Before that dozens of people walked by and even drove by him and didn't stop to help him. REALLY?! I believe it was surveillance footage, but still. The security personnel watching that footage couldn't call the man an ambulance or have someone go out there and help the poor guy? Unbelievable! This world is slowly going down the crapper and if we as people can't even work together and help each other when needed, and stop being so damn selfish, we're really in trouble.

2) One day we will all die by either: war, the next ice age, pangea ultima, etc.
3) War will divide us one day.
4) Communism
5) Racism
6) Children's language
7) Young criminals
8) ISIS
9) WWIII (who knows when it will happen)
10) Lack of space technology

12) Social Media itself
13) Toxic waste dumps (you dont know when zombie apocalypse is going to happen or not)
14) There is no Star Wars/Star Trek/Halo technology yet.

People are so negative though, they concentrate on the worst because that's what they put on the news, and what they put on the news has to be entertaining. Just because it's entertaining doesn't mean it's true! Half the time, they just exaggerate bullshit, they do have to get paid you know.

Peaks and troughs - like a mountain range. Personally, as a species, we've done incredibly well to get to where we are. We've overcome adversity many times to reach this point, and there is no reason why we won't continue to overcome adversity.

Technology and medical things are getting better, but people are getting dumber because of the technology, Kid's that text a lot are staring to bring text lingo into the classroom. It's getting so bad that they have a text lingo Shakespearean plays!!!

Its more worse than better but yeah we live anyway so you can make the best of it I know life always will start again But I still think you have to be careful with your enviroment

i cant tell. i think better and worse. back in the day if you were black it was almost mandatory to stay strapped with sum sort of gun but nowadays its almost nearly as bad. the economy is worse than it used to. ppl r starting to become less social due to the internet which can lead to anti-socialism and more violent ppl if aggravated

Today gotta have cable tv gotta good internet gotta have a gf not just to reproduce but for company (can be good)..... gotta have lots of money massive house exspensve car . And theres so much pressure on kids in school now days education is good but really nomads taught their kids to survive the world eat hunt etc can we really say we do that now like sernaio if all oil plastic resouces dried up well'd have lots of generations that didn't know how to hunt surstanably look after the land etc and what u say about hoping for the future is spot on but all is not lost i spose many things are getting better and many things stay the same i believe untill there are no religons no segragation and all man has true equality and respect for life well never evolve as a great species i mean look at animals they know what they must do to survive and only eat what they must to survive people are really viruses killing comsuming and moving onto the next place to continue the cycle

I think humans are slowly getting better but it isn't being balanced with our technological advances. For the most part we're well intentioned with these advances, but we often don't know the consequences of them until it is too late.
