genetic anomolies only occur after progressive generations of inbreeding such as 3 or 4 generations it what it takes to be statisticly significant enough to warrant it being illigal now with even brother sister incest the percentage of liklihood of birth defect in their offspring is only 1% higher than a non incestuous coupling.

No, they are NOT like brothers and sisters! I don't even know what you are talking about. They are FAR more distantly related than siblings, being your parent's sibling's child. Therefore, it is not as "ew" as you might think. (IMHO)
Duh, I know how cousins are related. I still would never hook up with any relative, no matter how distant the relationship is. Some people still see it as a brother-sister relationship while others see the difference. And no reason to get upset about it, it was obviously a question.
Incest amplifies the possibility that detrimental recessive genes may be expressed in the couples' children. I'm not opposed socially to cousin marriage, it's just that it's biologically irresponsible and could cause the couple undue trials in the long run.

Btw, Darwin did indeed marry his cousin, but he later regretted it when his kids came out with health problems. He theorized, correctly, that it may have been due to marrying his cousin.

Actually, cousins are not at all close genetically. Darwin married his 1st cousin...I think he understood genetics.
I know that Darwin believed in natural selection. This is a scientific concept that "beneficial mutations" are passed on to the next generation of a species. I see nothing genetically beneficial about mating with one's first cousin. It is against the rules of exogamy in the United States so, being a U.S. citizen, I would have to reject the notion as being cringe worthy since it is not how our culture usually conducts business.
Bennett et al, Journal of Genetic Counseling, 2002, says that,
"...on average, offspring of first-cousin unions have a 2 to 3 percent greater risk of birth defects than the general population, and a little over 4 percent greater risk of early death."

It's already legal here. You can marry an aunt too, or someone the same gender as you.
Nobody ever does marry an aunt or a cousin, though. Families are so fragmented here, my cousins are just people I'd see every couple of years.
