Do you think it’s immoral to have children?

A belief the media says is held by Millennials (what aren’t we getting blamed for?) is tgst we believe immoral to have children. Of course, I think it’s silly idea. After all, the future needs more people, and how else are they going to exist?

But I think it should no longer be acceptable that society should be forced into having a child. We need to ask ourselves if we’re capable of caring, educating, and providing for our children. And if we’re unable to do any of this, we shouldn’t even consider having children. Haven’t we seen enough damage done by parents who failed their children?

Whatever you believe, I would like to hear your thoughts.

It is immoral for people who are unfit to have kids to have them anyway. And it's worse when they themselves realise that they'd be a mediocre parent who could only give their child a second-rate upbringing, but they decide to put their child through that for the sole reason that they want to have kids. They just think "I want kids, so I'll have kids", without giving any thought to the welfare of the actual person they're bringing into the world. They're basically saying "it doesn't matter about what's best for them, I want kids, so I'm having them", not giving a single thought about what they'd want. That's just evil. I'd want to be 100% sure that I'd be able to give the child the best life possible before I'd consider having kids. I'd wanna be a therapist, fitness instructor, nutritionalist, professor, all rolled up into one before I'd consider myself worthy of creating a human being and being massively responsible for how their life turns out. I don't think it's morally acceptable to be so casual about it, to create a person and then think it's good enough to give them a sub-par life, just because you want kids.

A lot of my co-workers think it's immoral to have children because of it's impact on the environment, but they forget humans are one of the species that are a part of the environment. Yes, I think that people who abuse invitro or clomid like the octo-mom are immoral(and creating an unnatural amount of offspring and not being able to focus of their children as much as human parents need to), but making the human race extinct isn't any better for the environment than killing off any other species (extinction is BAD for the environment). Humans need to learn to be less obtrusive within the environment.

There are a lot of shitty/immoral people who procreate and make shitty/immoral babies. Those are the ones who should be stopped. But the older generations who are responsible for how bad things have gotten should just shut the hell up imo.

That depends on the type of parent said person is or will be. Working in a customer service job, I see plenty of terrible parents almost every day. For them, yeah, I think it's immoral.

You kind of just described why someone WOULD think it was immoral though when you said, "We need to ask ourselves if we’re capable of caring, educating, and providing for our children. And if we’re unable to do any of this, we shouldn’t even consider having children. Haven’t we seen enough damage done by parents who failed their children?"

It's immoral to have a plethora of kids, or to have any, if you are an idiot. Everything else is ok.

Of course it's not immoral, unless you live in a dangerous place, in poverty, etc.

Also it is immoral to have any more than 1 or 2 kids since over-population is the main driving force behind global warming, and indeed every kind of pollution on the planet today. Plus a huge reason as to why the wealth gap is increasing is because poor people are having way more kids than rich people. So I do think it's our social responsibility to limit the number of children we have, particularly if we're poor.
