Let's say that Is It Normal could have a mascot to represent their site and IINers would be referred to whatever the mascot is. An example would be the is it normal Buckaneers. What do you think? Would this be a good idea and what should the mascot be?

I don't like it. Many already see the red sheep on the homepage as a sort of mascot. I wouldn't want to be called the "IIN red-sheepers" or whatever, though. "IINers" is fine by me. As is IIN "members" or "users".
I dont think it would boost the community vibe, if that's even the aim of it. Nor can I see any other benefits of it. Let it happen naturally, if it is going to happen, rather than contriving some name that a lot of people don't want or even like. Seems forced, fake and unnecessary. Sorry to be a buzzkill about it. I think it'd only click on if the majority of the community were enthusiastic about it, so we'll just have to wait and see whether they like it.
There is already the red sheep. Part of the herd, but different. It works.
But calling IINers by a themed name? That doesn't sound good. Your example (IIN Buckaneers) is horrendous :P
Really I think it's unnecessary.
