Do you think i'm a psychopath?

I have had several times where a friend or someone else I know either says they think I'm a psychopath or comment that my thoughts or behavior is psychopathic.
Honestly it doesn't make a difference to me if I am or not and the only reason I care enough to ask this is to gain insight to myself out of curiosity.

There are qualities I have that suggest either answer. First I will list why I ask this.

- I have little understanding of emotion. I can feel good or bad but anything beyond that confuses me.
- I cannot think of anything I've ever felt guilty of. Guilt doesn't make sense to me because I don't understand why someone would do something they would regret.
- I had lots of behavior problems as a kid including thousands of dollars of damage from vandalism.
- I have violent and sadistic fantasies regularly.
- I don't care much for peoples feelings. I perceive them as a weakness.
- I never feel anxious or worried about anything nor do I understand why anyone does. Once again I perceive it as a weakness.
- I look down people who are self loathing, emotionally sensitive, or otherwise emotionally weak.
- I think people who get screwed over because they were naïve usually deserve it. I don't excuse myself from this either. (For example my bong was stolen last night and I think I should have been more careful and not left it on the porch.)
- I do not understand romance or why people desire romantic relationships.
- I feel no reward from doing good deeds.
- I cannot tolerate boredom and need to be constantly active.
- I am very impulsive and usually act on things simply because I thought of doing it.
- I have angry outbursts when provoked.
- I do not care about rules or laws. They're meaningless to me.
- I do not care about the emotional meanings of words. They mean nothing to me.
- I have no shame. I proudly express myself however I want.
- I don't have a problem taking what I want.
- There are many things I would kill someone for.
- I have been arrested several times and have done way much more I could have gone to jail for.

Now I will list some things that suggest I am not psychopathic.

- I am very friendly to everyone until they give me a reason not to.
- I do not lie any more than the average person.
- I feel no need to hide who I am. I would rather live with everyone judging me than pretend to be someone else.
- I like animals a lot and would never hurt pets but I may kill someone who does.
- I care a lot about human rights.
- I feel very strongly against abuse, especially towards children.
- I don't mind helping people who actually need it.
- I care about the people close to me.
- I would only kill someone who deserved it although I know I would feel very good about doing it.
- I'm mostly a good person and don't do anything that bad.

Impulsiveness and aggressiveness don't necessarily have to be symptoms of psychopathy, they may well be a sign of a variety of different psychological disorders.

    • You're probably right. Psychiatrists have diagnosed me as psychotic rather than psychopathic. Still whenever someone calls me out on my mental illness they usually guess psychopath which has left me wondering although the general public does not know much about psychology.
I also asked because I'm not sure if most of what I've listed is related to psychosis such as having almost no feelings or inhibitions.

Your alleged symptoms describe someone who is a sociopath, not a psychopath. The two words aren't synonyms, there are many differences between sociopaths and psychopaths.

        • Can you explain why and what the difference is? From what I understood psychopaths are born that way and sociopaths are made that way from bad upbringing although I had a great childhood. I thought the symptoms were the same.

Both suffer from what shrinks call antisocial personality disorder and "personality" (unlike "behavior") is genetic in that it cannot be changed or altered. So both psychopaths and sociopaths are essentially born with the disorder. The primary difference between the psychopath and sociopath is that psychopaths are usually disorganized people who have difficulty maintaining normal relationships, holding down a job, etc., while sociopaths usually live an outwardly normal life. As for all that malarkey about abusing animals, that is just crap that some animal-obsessed shrink came up with, published it, and it has been repeated ever since. Psychopaths and sociopaths are no more likely to abuse animals when young than anyone else.

Ted Bundy was a sociopath who was able to present such a facade of normalcy that when young women started disappearing in the Pacific Northwest, no one, except a longtime girlfriend, suspected him and even she wasn't sure. He finished college, attended law school, worked, had normal relationships, was active in the Republican Party, etc. And incidentally, Ted Bundy loved animals and never abused or mistreated them. One landlady recalled that when a moth got into the house one night, he insisted on catching and releasing it outdoors instead of allowing her to kill it.

You say you are "very friendly," then say you "never hide" who you are. These statements are contradictory as are some of the other things you've said. Most people could say the majority of the same things you're saying about themselves. Your biggest problem is that you spend too much time trying to analyze yourself instead of just living your life. According to people who knew him, Ted Bundy once had his horoscope done and was told his odd proclivities were a result of Venus in the sign Scorpio and he accepted that. It wasn't until he changed his major from ancient studies to psychology and began analyzing himself that he started killing women.

Despite a few things on your list, you sound like a pretty good person. Not A Psychopath. Unless you care about people close to you in the same way that you care about your favorite pair of shoes; then you might be a psychopath.

You're attempt at acknowledgement shows that most likely you are not, although you do exhibit more than my perceived average amount of "psychopathic" tendencies or whatever it is you would like to call them. I do believe you have some problems that could use work on fixing if you so desire.
