Do you think i have body dysmorphic disorder?

Ever since I was a little girl I have being obsessed with beauty. I was a normal looking kid, attractive even but I never felt I was outstandingly beautiful. This was what I wanted more than anything in the world! I saved money since I was a teenager and had my first boob job at 18, at 19 I had another to make them even larger. They looked ridiculously large and I decided to get a reduction when I was 22, encouraged and paid by my parents. I had them pay for a nose job as well, something I always wanted. I actually look great now. Big, but proportionate boobs, my nose job is extremely natural looking and came out amazingly. I have a great body thanks to great genes =) and a lottttt of working out but lately it got into my head I want to have a brazilian buttlift. This is just a fat transfer, to your butt, so the results are very natural looking, I just want more of a Kim K butt. My butt now is fairly big but I just don't think it's outstanding. I don't know why I am such a slave to looking perfect, I don't like it. Do you think I have body Dysmorphic disorder? Its a disorder that makes you extremely preoccupied and obsessed with your physique or specific part of your body that you perceive as wrong? Or I am just a kind of shallow girl but normal? WHat do you think? Btw, please be respectful and save the insults, I am nice person and wouldn't disrespect you.

YES, you have BDD 22
NO, I don't think you have a mental disorder 6
I don't have enough information to make a decision 4
This entire society is beauty obsessed 17

BDD is pathological; what you have is a simple case of vanity, possibly complicated by insecurity. People with BDD can get no relief from their fears that particular features are deformed, hideous, monstrous -- even after multiple surgeries. Sometimes they even cut the feature they hate or try to break their own noses.

I think you posted this just so people could look at you brag about how pretty you are. I'm sorry you feel the need for such public validation from strangers.

    • Thanks for your reply. Just wanted to let you know I am not trying to get any validation, its not like I posted a picture on a site to get praises. I truly was wondering if people believed those were symptoms of BDD.

I truly don't believe they are symptoms of BDD. What you're describing doesn't sound pathological, crippling or dangerous, so I doubt it's anything that should make you worry.

If you find your chase for physical perfection limits you in other ways, it's something you might want to try to overcome, though, even if it isn't BDD. Volunteer to work with troubled kids or elderly people. Find other things in yourself to appreciate; you are far more than your physical self. We all are. :)

You do not at ALL IMO and you should really stop trying to self diagnose. Those who truly have BDD wouldn't call themselves attractive, say they look good, have a large butt, etc. you just want to be enhanced. Which is fine, but really fucking annoying when you try to pass it off as a disorder.

thats right ..it is crippling and thats the whole point...your minimization will harm her thinking into she is normal when clearly she is not...your mother in law was a therapist...maybe she was but you dont have a fuckin clue....and online , internet , whatever...may be the only chance this girl has of getting valuable advice.....if they meet the criteria...they meet the criteria...period...

Yes, I do believe you have it in a severe way...its sad really that you had 3 boob jobs out...before you were 22...you need help... you are even worse than most BDD's since you already are doing surgeries...youll end up like Michael Jackson

people with bdd focus on one body part that is within normal and obsess over how disfigured it looks. that does not sound like what you have described but you may have very low self esteem.

What's wrong with how you were? You don't need a certain nose size or boob size to be pretty. Audrey Hepburn had small boobs and a big nose and was pretty.
I think you should stop with the surgeries before you look like Joan Rivers and start up some hobbies. There is only so much that "Beauty" can give you. I LOVE fashion and beauty but I know that after a certain point, it can become depressing and destructive. Just go enjoy life.

oh and prose athlete...you dont know what you are talking about...everybody thinks mental illness sufferers are so extreme...most of the time you cant even tell someone has a mental illness unless you take them to a professional and even then everyone says the professional is wrong and just trying to get you on some med...trust me this girl has a severe case of BDD

Really? I try to stay away from diagnosing strangers with mental disorders online, especially when those disorders can be crippling. But hey, Doctor DavidS, go ahead and give someone advice that'll mess up their lives.

My mother-in-law was a therapist for years, by the way, so I do know some things about mental and emotional illnesses. I also know that it's a really bad idea to tell people online that they'll "end up like Michael Jackson" if you sincerely believe they have a psychological disorder.

But you're right, David. It makes much more sense to tell someone they're sick and "worse than most BDD's." You have a bright future ahead of you as a psychologist, clearly. :)
