Do you think we'll ever reach the stage where, not only is sex work legalised, but where hiring an escort is seen as a perfectly acceptable and normal way (for a single person at least) to treat themselves? Where, just like going to a spa or eating at a fancy restaurant, it'd just be a way to splurge on yourself every now and then, and de-stress, and have a nice relaxing evening? Or will it always be seen as seedy and perverted?

    Yes, it will. It used to be acceptable in other societies, so it probably will be again at some point.

    No and it shouldn't. First of all few women prostitute themselves because they want to. The majority of them are mentally ill and either poor or self harming through sex, or both. When they eventually get better and manage to break out of that lifestyle, if ever, they have lifelong trauma and may never be able to have a healthy relationship due to having become sex repulsed and maybe even suffering with ptsd considering men can pretty violent, especially with women they don't respect. Not to mention those who are being sold out by pimps, traffickers. Those who get kidnapped and drugged up and forced to sell but too gone from drugs to even be all there and realize what's going on.
    Secondly it's disgusting. You don't know what diseases they've got, and it's just gross behaviour to pay for sex. There is no such thing as paying for consent, you're paying for a rape. Those are mentally damaged and fragile women, there's a reason they take cash and don't sleep around for free. It's not because it's enjoyable or fun, just like taking a razor to your wrists isn't fun. It's a temporary relief and a way to punish yourself for all the negativity you're carrying.
    Any man who even pays for a prostitute is pathetic though. Most likely he has sadistic traits and needs to control and berate someone and it's easiest to go for someone as vunerable as possible.

      You're thinking of street prostitutes. And I agree, they usually are forced into it from drug addiction or debt, and are often threatened into remaining in it by violent pimps. And the thought of sex trafficked women makes me feel literally sick. So I'd never visit one of these prostitutes. Even if I knew for definite that they weren't sex slaves, I'd still consider it taking advantage of someone's misfortune, so it would be disgusting and immoral alright.

      But escorts are different. They do it of their own free will, purely because there's a lot of money to be made in it. They're not interested in spending their lives working long hard hours just to scrape by, they'd rather live in luxury even if it means doing some disgusting things now and then to earn it, they think it's worth it. They often don't mind having sex with strangers anyway, they may not enjoy it most of the time, but it's just an unpleasant chore to them rather than the suffering inflicted upon prostitutes. They also aren't controlled by pimps, they're usually part of an organisation that treats them fairly, or are independent. It still can be dangerous alright, but if sex work were legalised then it would become much safer. It would also become safer in terms of STDs, since both the sex workers and the customers would have to get regular STD tests.

    I think sex has gotten out of hand in general. There would be a lot less problems in many communities if teens and(most) young adults didn't sleep around.

    I don't mean that everyone should wait until they find their soulmate, only then being permitted to enter wedlock and finally experience intercourse.

    I'm just saying, maybe being reckless and foolish should be frowned upon.

      Honestly I've taken the sanctity out of it and it works out just as well. It's like testing out a car, if it's a bad ride it's better to figure that out before you buy it.

      Just got to know the limits and be comfortable. Having a reliable car is first for me, though having an uncomfortable car would just be plain unpleasant to deal with over years.

    I think prostitution should be legalized and given standards.

    Morally it should not be changed, whoring is should still be looked down upon.

    Most people on both sides of the political spectrum in the us think its overreach for the government to punish you for it. I spend too much time talking politics on discord server and the only ones that I hear are for punishing for it is some of the religious folks

    So yeah I think you'll see it. Wouldnt be surprised if California has already decriminalized it. I think they have.

    Its also just a petty misdemeanor now anyway
